Annotated Bibliography
Oakley, A. (1984). Marx's Critique of Political Economy: 1844 to 1860. Routledge & Kegan Paul.
This book provides an analysis of the intellectual sources and evolution of Marx’s critique of
political economy that leads to the writing of the main capital manuscripts. It is aimed at
clarifying Marx's own view of and what he wanted to achieve through the critique of political
economy. A more elaborate and independent view at Marx's critique will give a view point
against which w can gauge and compare Marx's views against Plato's views. This is to mean to
give a clear overview of the points gathered in Marx (2012).
Marx, K. (2012). Das Kapital: A Critique of Political Economy. Simon and Schuster.
In this book, Marx tries to present a systematic account of the nature, development, and future
of the capitalist system. He does this with a strong focus on economics – he touches on wages,
commodities, and worker capitalist relationships. The knowledge in this book will enable a
deeper understanding of Marx himself and his ideologies with the vision he had for a political
economy.
Plato. (2000). Plato: 'The Republic'. Cambridge University Press, 2000
This a translation of aims at giving a conversational feels of Plato's dialogues. The
conversations are arranged in a philosophical sort. The book explicates the primary notion of
societal or political justice and derives an analogous concept of individual justice. By knowing
how Plato classifies the society in the republic, we can clearly distinguish his view from Marx's
view as presented in the critique of the capitalist.

This paper by Reinke focuses the issues raise in The Republic by Plato to compare their
communism view differences. This is because later works of Plato such as Laws is has some
views on The Republic while other works have unchanged ideologies from it. This is a good
basis onto which we can have a comparative overview of the Marxian philosophy of
communism and that of Plato.
Taylor, A. E. (2001). Plato: The Man and His Work. Courier Corporation.
Taylor presents the early life of Plato, his influencers and his works of philosophy. Taylor's
point of understanding provides an opportunity to reduce personal biasness from directly
reading his works and have a different point of view and that provided by the works of Reinke
(1942). The whole of the life history and his works together provides a one stop point for
looking at his political philosophies at a glance.
