Sample Speech Outline

The number of topics (A, B, C, etc) and the number of subtopics (1, 2, 3 etc.) will vary according to the choices you make and the tools you choose to use. Outline should not exceed one page. The Outline must be in full sentences – single words or phrases are insufficient.

Sample Outline
I. Introduction (these points do not all have to be here or in this order. These are suggestions for a model speech. In general the introduction is a series of short points that gives a foundation for the rest of the speech)

A. Attention getter :

The opening gains the interest and focus of the audience. This is the first transition

B. Significance:

Explain why this topic is significant and relate its applicability to the

Audience.

C. Credibility:

The speaker presents their sources and background on the topic.

D. Thesis Statement:

The Thesis statement is a short, clear statement of the purpose of the speech.

B. Second Main Point

III. Conclusion

A. Review of main points:

The major ideas of the speech are restated in a clear fashion.

B. Summary/ Conclusion:

The conclusion highlights the destination of the speech.

C. Final Statement:

The Final Statement is a book end for the speech often mathcing the attention getter and leaving the audience with something to remember the speech by.
