4. The results from this project will help to focus conservation efforts on areas where the elephants are in danger

5. They chose the sample count over total count because it is not practical to count every elephant on such a big scale. They therefore decided to use the sample count method where only animals in survey area are marked. They also spent only a fraction of the cost.

6. Each survey area is marked with parallel lines known as transect lines that run perpendicular to major landscape features. The aircraft then flies along the transect lines. Two researchers each looking at the left or right side of the plane count the animals.

7. The cameras are used in determining what is inside and outside of the strip. The human eye is not good at cutting through a group hence the need for the cameras.
