Outline

1. Explanation of what personal identity over time is. I am going to write about which people is which before and after the fortune cookie (highlighting the main points such as bodily, brain, soul and memory criterion).

2. Difference and definition of qualitive identity and numerical identity. How is it implicated in the movie Freaky Friday?

3. Explanation of physical criterion and psychological criterion.

4. Parfit’s psychological criterion similarity to Locke’s memory criterion and also differences.

5. Definition of psychological connectedness, psychological continuity and uniqueness of physiological continuity. Examples of each one.

6. Answer to the question “would it be possible to definitively say which actress is portraying which character after Freaky Friday’s fortune cookie scene?

7. Explanation of what Parfit meant by “dividing”.

8. Description of Parfit’s example using the triplets. ‘What Parfit thinks happens to someone if they “divide” in this way?’

9. Answer to the question: “which of the two resulting half-brained people does Parfit think of the original whole brained person is identical to?

10. Explanation of what Parfit meant by saying that there are two ways that you could stop existing. Emphasizing in each one of those two ways.

11. Giving a brief explanation of Bernard William’s “The Self and the Future”.

12. My point of view on why I agree or disagree with either one (Parfit or William) .
