1. Introduction: Thesis Statement

1. Gun violence is an issue that has been on rapid increase globally. It has resulted to deaths of many innocent people as a result of availability of firearms.

1. The level of gun related violence vary greatly among geographical regions, countries and sub nationally.

1. The highest rates of gun related violence in the world usually occur in low income countries unlike in high income countries.

1. In countries like Jamaica, Colombia, Venezuela etc. usually experience high rates of gun violence since they are low income rate countries.

1. In high income countries like United Kingdom, United States, Japan the rate of gun violence is low.

1. In the high-income countries there are very strict gun control laws. This helps reduce the rate of gun related deaths and injuries.

1. In this case illegal ownership of guns is considered as a criminal offence which is punishable by a sentence.

1. Most of the fire arms possessed by the citizens are usually licensed.

1. The United States of America is regarded to have the highest rate of gun violence among the high-income countries.

1. Despite having the highest number of police officers, it is attributed to a high rate of gun ownership.

1. Almost 75% of the guns in the world are controlled by the civilians.

1. Globally, millions of people are killed using fire arms.

1. For example, in 2013 gun violence resulted to almost 180,100 deaths as compared to 1990 where the deaths were 128,100.

1. Most of these deaths usually result from illegal ownership of arms.

1. There is a very high rate of gun ownership in the United States of America.

It is estimated that 48% of the guns owned by civilians is in United States.

1. The rise in the numbers of terroristic groups across the world is as a result of gun possession by the civilians (Hirst, D. 1977). 

1. Most of the people usually engage themselves in terroristic actions due to the availability of fire arms.

1. In the middle east, the rate of gun ownership by civilians is high due to lack of strict rules which prohibit gun possession and that’s why there are so many terroristic activities.

1. Gun violence may or may not be regarded as a criminal offence.

1. Gun violence is determined to be a criminal offence depending on the jurisdiction.

1. Criminal gun violence include homicide, assault by use of a deadly weapon, suicide or attempted suicide.

1. Non-criminal gun violence may include accidental or unintentional injury or death.

1. Gun violence depends on the income of a country. High income countries have low cases of gun related violence as compared to low income countries. It is also tied on the possession of fire arms by the civilians. This greatly causes most of gun related deaths. In addition to this, gun violence can be termed as a criminal or non-criminal offence depending on the jurisdiction

1. Gun violence has been on rapid increase globally, it’s an issue that needs to be addressed in order to minimize most the premature deaths. Illegal ownership of firearms should be put into consideration to prevent deaths of civilians.
