In this regard, this section will give the reader a scope of what to expect in the different sections of the paper, right from the introduction. The last part of this section will incorporate significant keywords that the reader will come across throughout the research paper (terms such as supply chain, transportation, logistics, logistics management, security, supply chain security, and security measures).
Key words: supply chain security, research findings, transportation, logistics, management
Introduction to the topic, problem, or thesis statement
As the first major section of the research paper, the introduction will touch on significant aspects of the research topic. With an aim gaining the readers’ attention, this section will entail the definition of significant terms, including transportation and logistics. In correlation to the research topic, this section will shed some light on the purpose of this paper, which is defining significant security measures in transportation and logistics management.
The thesis statement of this research paper will also be documented, which is to establish significant measures and strategies to be incorporated in transportation and logistics management to enhance security and facilitate safety. This statement will ascertain that the reader grasps an understanding of the area of focus of the research paper. In this context, the introduction will outline the significance of security in transportation and logistics management. As such, the section will also touch on security measures. This topic was selected based on issues in supply chain security, which have increasingly gained momentum over the years due to increasing cases of theft and delays (Cox, Prager, & Rose, 2011). Such issues and attributing aspects will also be outlined in this section. In general, the introduction prepares the reader for the next sections of the research paper.
Literature Review Background Research on the topic
This section will provide background information concerning the research topic, ensuring the reader understands the basis of the topic and need for research. It will provide an overview of security issues in transportation and logistics, providing significant case scenarios, particularly in relation to product thefts (Burges, 2012; Rodrigue, Comtois, & Slack, 2016). As outlined in the graphical presentation below, the section will provide an overview of the goods commonly subjected to thefts as well as attributing locations in supply chain systems. Transportation of food and beverage is affected massively by security issues, particularly along truck stops. Other aspects of security issues will be highlighted in this section, establishing the relevance of the research topic. Besides, this section will also promote a deeper understanding of the topic, linking essential aspects of the research topic, particularly in relation to supply chain systems.
Security issues affect the efficiency and effectiveness of supply chain systems (Yang & Wei, 2013). These issues have hefty financial implications and affect the transportation systems. In this sense, this section will document the adverse effects of security issues, such as heightened costs (Lu, Koufteros, & Lucianetti, 2017), which will form the basis of the need for incorporating security measures in transportation and logistics. Thus, the history and nature of supply chain security will be documented in this section.
Additionally, this section will explore relevant sources pertaining to supply chain security and security issues in line with transportation and logistics management. It will document findings of research and studies carried out concerning the security measures in transportation and logistics management, such as the incorporation of technology as documented by Cox et al. (2011).
In relation to the increased supply chain security issues, this section will also provide an elaboration of the findings of other researchers in the field. The effect of security issues on transportation and logistics management will be highlighted, ascertaining that the need for conducting this research is established. Since the thesis statements of the researchers vary, this section will also be sure to discuss the varying thoughts and arguments of researchers as well as establish similar arguments to essentially support the research topic.
Discussion of your ideas on the topic and problem
Just as the subheading implies, this section will provide an overview of my thoughts in relation to the research topic. It is undeniable that security is a critical aspect. While it promotes enhanced safety, it ensures smooth operations along the supply chain systems. Based on my understanding of the concepts revolving around the research topic, this section will incorporate the foundation of the security issue problem. The hypothesis in line with the research topic will also be documented in this section.
My understanding of the topic will be outlined, touching on the impact of security issues in supply chain, including increased costs and inefficient delivery of goods which reflects on an organization’s competency level, massively affecting customer service and satisfaction (Schmitt, 2011). Relevant security measures will also be documented, providing an elaboration on significant supply chain management strategies to address the issue. In general, this section will ascertain that the reader gets my perspective on security measures in transportation and logistics management.
Discussion of new solution(s) to the problem
Regarding the supply chain security issues, the findings of the research conducted will be highlighted in this section. With a reference on the contributing factors promoting the problem defined by the research topic, solutions will be proposed and highlighted in these sections. It will provide an elaboration of solutions documented by various researchers. While such solutions have been tried and tested before, this section will also highlight the significance of these solutions.
In correlation with the changing times, this section will highlight innovative solutions that can be applied to address the problem. It will entail an aspect of technological solutions as evidenced by technological advancements and innovations, including the incorporation of security equipment. Background checks and screening of workers as well as data protection concerning planned transportation of goods are also relevant solutions (Rodrigue et al., 2016). However, the significance of each solution proposed will be defined by providing an overview of its advantages and disadvantages, facilitating the selection of an appropriate strategy and solution to address the problem. In this regard, the reader will be better positioned to select the solution that will yield desirable results.
Conclusion
The conclusion will tie down the ideas and arguments documented in the research paper. It will not only restate the research topic, but it will provide an overview of the purpose of the research paper and the thesis statement as well. It will provide a brief overview of supply chain security, documenting attributing issues and effects on transportation and logistics. Considering each section of the research paper, the conclusion will summarize primary takeaways. It will analyze the proposed solutions and provide a recommendation of a solution that will yield meaningful results once applied. Gaps in the research will also be documented in this section, defining the possibility for future research recommendations. In a way, the conclusion will be structured to encourage additional research, ascertaining those various aspects of this research topic are addressed.
