1. Fence is in “good repair” free of rust, wood rot, splintering, missing latches, protruding nails and/or holes

2. Area is securely fenced, gate latches locked, free of head entrapments (i.e. gaps over 3 ½ inches), and prevents children from straying from play area

3. Ground surfaces are smooth/even with NO tripping hazards (i.e.: free of rocks, tree roots, and hoses)

4. Play equipment surfaces such as platforms, stairs, bridges and walkways are even and free of slippery material, water, ice, sand or leaves

5. Play area sand, grass, walkways, bark and cushioning material are free of holes, broken glass, foreign objects, debris or standing water.

6. The amount of cushioning material under all climbers, slides, and swings are at a minimum depth of 9 inches and have a 6 foot fall zone

7. Rubber matting is in “good repair” free of cracking, holes, and lifted edges that create a tripping hazard

8. Play area benches, play structures, railings, and ramps are free of sharp edges, pinch points, protruding objects, missing parts, or hot surfaces

9. Play area is free of frayed cables, worn ropes, chains that could pinch, cracking encasements and rust on chains.

10. Sandboxes are free of debris/animal feces. Covers removed and stored away from play area when sandbox is in use

11. Bolts in child play areas are securely fastened. There are no protrusions

12. Riding toys, strollers, buggies, tricycles and wagons are safe and in good repair.

13. Drains have covers to prevent child access.

14. Outdoor play areas are free of insects/spider webs/rodents

15. Grassy areas and planting beds are free of weeds, debris, mushrooms/fungi, toxic plants, and plants with thorns

16. Sites with drinking fountains: they are free debris and in working order.

Sites without working drinking fountains have portable containers with water and cups is in the play area.

Water is changed daily and container cleaned daily.

17. No graffiti or vandalism present
