16.5 Outcomes of High-Performance Work Systems Organizations achieve a wide variety of outcomes from high-performance work systems and effective human resources management. We have categorized these outcomes in terms of either employee concerns such as quality-of- work-life issues and job security or competitive challenges such as the firm’s performance, productivity, and profitability. Throughout the text, we have emphasized that the best organizations find ways to achieve a balance between these two sets of outcomes and pursue activities that improve both.
