Flowchart Improvement Process
OPS 571
Executive summary
Process improvement is a tool that helps companies meet its goals by reevaluating their objectives and changing how they do things to satisfy customer demands and increase productivity. This paper uses an online shop as an example of demonstrating how to improve a flow flowcharting process. The online store receives orders from potential clients, process the order and ships the order to the customers. The paper uses MS word in developing a flowchart detailing the process products pass before reaching the clients. Great introduction. You provide the reader with an appropriate background and preview what they will read.
Add a subheading to assist with flow
In the as-is process, the Online company structure is concerned with receiving stock, processing the stock by the company workers, and shipping the product to the client. In case the product is not available, the store will order the products directly from the vendor. The whole company operation can be summarized as in the as-is process flowchart.
Add a subheading to show you are moving to the Improvement process
A scrutiny of the flow as-is process chart shows some shortcoming as the flowchart does not answer certain important queries that may arise during normal operation of the store. Online stores should have mechanisms of acquiring customers, placing orders, order fulfillment, Invoicing, and collections of goods. If you examine the as-is chart, some critical activities are not shown how they will be implemented. Such a scenario forces us to use process improvement techniques in improving the process. Excellent points and valuable in order fulfillment.
The first improvement process technique is to define the online store as different units working together to deliver goods to customers on time whenever they order. This will be done by placing related services and product into one department controlled by a particular team. Using the inventory department as an example, members of the team, let say those in the inventory department will be given the authority and responsibility of ensuring the products that store sell are always available. Their team will be responsible for organizing replenishment of products from the vendors.
Another processing technique used involves defining and identifying of all the processes that are essential to running the online store. Some of the process identified are supplying, shipping, and restocking of products. The relationship among the various process should also be determined to enable us to identify the input and output of each process.
Add a subheading and be careful with spacing between paragraphs
The metric measure should always be done and comparisons made to determine areas that need improvement. This was done through the collection of data such as product performance, transportation cost, customer satisfaction, etc. We used delivery duration time metric to guide us if there is the need for finding alternative means of transporting products. Also, certain metrics will provide hindsight in whether to produce some product in-house or outsource from other manufacturers. Analysis of the collected data enables us to make informed decisions and make necessary changes. I would like to have seen more depth and some actual metrics in your discussion.
Process improvement is an iterative exercise aimed at improving all the aspects of production by making changes according to results obtained after analysis of data. Some of the changes or improvement added to our chart is the putting in place mechanism that returns faulty product.
