 Choose 1 theme from the episode “Call the Midwife “and write a 1 page reflection (double spaced) on how cleft palate relates to what you are learning about in pediatrics.  Discuss how these issues in the 1960’s are different, and how they are still relevant to healthcare and nursing issues today. Apply the Mercy and Jesuit traditions and apply at least 1 principle of these traditions to your reflection.

In the “Call the Midwife “the mother has child that has son Kirk with cleft palate and the child need special attention with feedings and was told he will need multiple surgeries. The mother considers letting him pass so he won’t deal with the life long problems and she told the nurse this when she made a house visit and does this make her a bad mother. She told the nurse she was considering adoption, however the nurse understood all she needed was help because she had 6 children and her husband has been gone for a length of time on a ship and she doesn’t know when he will return to help. Once the nurse begins giving orders to the other kids to help the baby became manageable and the mother no longer felt overwhelmed/overloaded with chores and caring for infant child with cleft palate.
