Thanks for your early post here.

I would really recommend working with the Mozart piece. First, he is one of the most important Classical era musicians (the Rococo/Neoclassical era in painting) of Western music. Many of his compositions will be familiar to you, as they are often reused in movie soundtracks and TV commercials. Second, the guy was simply a genius, which leads us back to point #1. Third, I can just about guarantee that no textbook on Western art & music has ever skipped discussing him. He is an absolute *must* when it comes to the narrative of Western creativity. And finally, his personal history--from child prodigy to royal musician to famous opera librettist/composer to dying pauper--makes for a really interesting presentation.

But in addition to all of the well-deserved musical fame, I think Mozart is the natural choice here because he is the one figure who is known to us. You will have no problems finding biographical material on him. And this will make it much easier to succeed with the presentation.

This course's major assignment asks you to select a major visual artist or composer. The emphasis is on "MAJOR"! And Mozart would definitely fulfill that requirement.
