“Impact of NURSING BURNOUT ON PATIENT SAFET AND SATISFACTION” Nursing burnout also known as nursing turnover is a state where nurses experience
emotional or physical exhaustion that may result in a reduced sense of accomplishment and personal identity loss(Mayo Clinic Staff, 2018). Nursing burnout has
some negative impacts on healthcare at a national level. “With previous reports recently made on pervasive burnout and depression among healthcare professionals and the pressure that many influential healthcare organizations exert on clinicians to deliver high-quality, safe care under increasingly heavy patient loads, the use and teaching of EBP may be key not only to providing outstanding care to patients and saving healthcare dollars, but also to reducing the escalating turnover rate in certain healthcare professions” (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). This is devastating, yet important, due to the impact this has on patient care and safety.

Systematic Review. Level I
High level of evidence provided; numerous studies identified. Quantitative statistical research combined. This meta-analysis included 813 articles involving
nursing burnout and patient satisfaction, obtained from three different databases were studied. A large number of studies was analyzed. This systematic
literature review retrieved all possible information. The analysis proved a association between patient care actions and burnout. A resultant effect of approximately 2.67 with a confidence interval of between 2.3 and 3.0, is a representation of the “probability of superiority of 96.7%.” Through the meta-analysis process, a correlation concerning the development of patient safety actions and burnout was found with a “probability of superiority of 66.4%.” A correlation amongst these elevated levels of burnout and deteriorating patient safety was hence concluded.

of the studies were within an acceptable standard error in health with representativeness in the range of 95%, reinforcing the congruence with the meta-analysis and assertiveness in the general interpretation of results.” “The burnout presence among healthcare professionals is associated with the worsening of the patient’s safety. High levels of burnout is related to external factors, such as high workload, long hours, and interpersonal relationship.” Avoiding professional fatigue is an essential approach towards the improvement of the patient’s safety.

This Meta-analysis review of randomized controlled and clinical controlled trials analyzed a large number of databases to assess the effect of nursing burnout on
patient well-being and satisfaction. The particular studies that were selected were carried out on most cases with physicians and nurses, mainly in the United States, trailed by European nations; “90% were cross-sectional studies, 5% were prospective, and 5% longitudinal, with studies between the years 2015 and 2020.” This study carefully summarized the causes of nursing burnout and the interventions that can be used to mitigate nursing burnout in the practice. This trial contains
current data. A large amount of data analyzed gives strength to this study.

nursing burnout and patient satisfaction, obtained from three different databases were studied. After incorporating the Boolean terms AND nurse turnover, it
then narrowed the search articles to 402. Through the Walden Library, the search terms nurse burnout in the ED were used, narrowing to peer-reviewed only and full text. This generated 8 articles. To improve these results strategies such as incorporating more Boolean terms, using more specific search terms, and trialing more databases could benefit in a more efficient and effective search. These systematic studies provided strong information guidelines from expert organizations. This study showed an important correlation between nursing burnout and patient’s well-being and satisfaction.
Conclusion “Clinicians with burnout may have impaired attention, memory, and executive function that decrease their recall and attention to detail placing them
and their patients at higher risk for errors and safety (Heath, 2018).” Happy and healthy employees promote happy and healthy patients. This topic is in need of clinical inquiry at a national level, but also where this nurse is employed. The turnover rate has been significantly increased where this nurse is employed,
leading to short staffing, thus increased workload and unhappy patients. This kind of work environment is unsafe and warrants change not only for the healthcare professionals sake, but more importantly the patients sake.
