Relationships and Power in Negotiation
Negotiation is a process that people use to resolve differences with each other. To obtain a compromise or agreement while avoiding dispute and controversy, a pro- tocol must be followed. Individuals understandably seek the best outcome possible for their stance in every debate. Negotiations are part of our everyday life.
In the workplace, it may come a time when one may feel that he or she needs to be rewarded with a higher salary or rewards. However, in some cases, you have
to negotiate this with your bosses because you are on payroll. Negotiation skills and strategies may play a big role in these negotiations. Salary negotiation is a critical employment skill. Negotiating a wage increase is contingent upon your current market value. Requesting leave can be disruptive to employers, thus it is critical to ob- tain the appropriate time. When it comes to negotiation, “a relationship is a perceived link which can be psychological, economic, political, or personal; regardless of its origin, wise leaders, like competent negotiators, try to build a strong connection since effective leadership is” actually contingent upon it. To obtain wanted actions from others, positive negotiating connections are essential, not just for the sake of eliciting warm and fuzzy feelings but also because they promote trust, which is a key component of gaining desired behaviors from others. When someone they trust suggests a course of action, they perceive it as less hazardous and hence more acceptable. The dynamics in the process of negotiation is the power relationship that may be between the employee and the employer (Tanwar & Prasad, 2016).
The employer or manager has a bigger say in most cases, and therefore, having the dynamics of negotiation can play a significant role in the increase of the salary.
Entering a deal with someone who possesses more authority than you might be intimidating. Whether you're requesting a new assignment from your boss or at- tempting to close a large commercial deal with a client, your approach to the negotiation can have a significant impact on your chances of success. Relationships and power are the results of effective reporting relationships, and it all comes down to delivering the goods. If the boss wields more negotiating power, your convictions about doing jobs satisfactorily and in accordance with the company's aims must stand true. The contrast is provided by real steps toward accomplishments and well-

allocated and finished tasks. In these situations, where the boss has a higher power in the payments, I would apply some strategies to counterbalance, my em-
ployer. For instance, it is important to know and discuss with the manager what value or helps you bring in the workplace. Highlighting your contributions and values to the firm or organization may play a big role in the negotiation process. When negotiating a raise, keep track of your accomplishments. Create a bulleted list of your points. Increase the perceived worth of your business profile. Evaluate the episodes that occurred on your road to achieving your objectives. Revivals, revenue targets, and cost savings use all of these aspects to influence the debate in a positive way
Second, putting together a salary research strategy might be beneficial to you. As a result of conducting this research to learn more about the benefits and
salaries offered to someone with the same skills and expertise as you and bringing this information to the negotiation table, you will be better positioned to persuade your employer to increase your pay and benefits package (Royalty, 2008).
Thirdly, you should consider what you have to offer to the employer, for example, the training and experience needed in the workplace. Employees who have
vast experience and are competent are hard to let go of, and therefore, during the negotiation process, it is important to highlight these accomplishments and experi- ence to the manager to have a bargaining chip. The employer can evaluate the accomplishments you have made and use them as a reason to increase your salary. Trust, reputation, and justice will play a significant role in the negotiation process. For instance, trust is crucial in any workplace. Managers and employers may create trust with employees and may delegate tasks they feel the employees can accomplish (Jasim Uddin, 2011). This trust is what builds relationships between the em- ployee and the employer. When the employee wants a higher salary, trust can play a significant role because the manager understands what the employee
brings to the organization. Having a good reputation is essential too. Many employees who get promoted to higher positions have an excellent reputation and
are trusted by their employers. Managers and leaders like to do so because they want someone who can handle the tasks well. The same case applies in the negotia- tion for higher pay.

Having a good reputation may boost your chances of getting higher pay than someone who has tarnished his or her name. Justice may as well determine
whether to be rewarded with a higher salary. An employer or manager can assess your accomplishments and tasks and feel justified that you deserve higher pay. Therefore, in the negotiation process, all these aspects should be considered.
