Article Review on Project Management

Radujković, M., & Sjekavica, M. (2017). Project management

success factors. Procedia Engineering, 196, 607-615. In this

article, Radujković describes project management refers to the art of managing all the aspects of a given project from inception to closure with the use of the scientific and structured methodology. A project on the other side refers to any measure that that is tem- porary and has a beginning and an end. A project must create

something unique and at the same time must be progressively elaborated. Within an organization, there is the project manage- ment office that ensures all projects are financially viable and at the same time to raise an alarm whenever cost issues are affecting the success. It also keeps a tab on the billing as well as other de- tails that concern the project. The role of the project manager in project management is to ensure that the overall objectives of the project are met with each of the individual members participating.

Radujković also defines a project as an activity that is made to meet the creation of a unique product or service and therefore ac- tivities that are routinely done cannot be referred to as a project. A project has to be something that creates something unique. It is also important to note that the various phases make up the project life cycle. Project managers are supposed to divide the project into phases for control and tracking purposes. The purpose of each of these phases is to make sure each set of the project is agreed upon before deciding to start. Each phase is also associated with a certain milestone. It is essential to understand the project life cycle which consists of initiating, controlling, executing, and finally the closing process. Project management is all about creating

structure and managing the project commitments as well as the delivery of agreed results. Projects also help organizations in achieving their set goals and objectives which might be difficult to execute without a good way of managing the same. Project man- agement also provides a framework within which subsequent ac- tions by organizations can be taken. Didehvar, N.,

Teymourifard, M., Mojtahedi, M., & Sepasgozar, S. (2018). An

investigation on virtual information modeling acceptance based on project management knowledge areas. Buildings, 8(6), 80.

According to Didehvar, project management areas are the factors that one needs to know about to understand the whole aspect of project management. These various include integration,

scope, time, cost, quality, human resource, communications, risk,

and procurement. Project integration management

This is the umbrella that covers all the other areas of the

project. It works through a knitting together individual tasks into one project with good defined goals and objectives. Any organiza- tion looking at the bigger picture and how projects fit into its larger processes is the area that it needs to concentrate on. Project

scope management

This refers to the total amount of work that ought to be done to deliver a given product, service and includes everything that must

go into a project as well as what defines its success. Good project scope is important since it gives your team a chance of knowing

that it is doing what is necessary. Project time management

All projects will rely on several times as well as schedules to com- plete. Time management for a project impacts the quality of its scope and therefore it becomes one of the most important areas. The time process in a project also provides a framework for devel- oping a sequence of activities and how they can effectively fit into

the overall project plan. Project cost management

For any project to work, the cost must be involved however little it will be. Organizations strive on minimizing costs when developing projects as part of showing ROI. A continuous evaluation of the costs that are to be spent on a project is very important.

Project quality management

This is a process of continuous measuring of all the activities that take place in the entire project management. It thus happens with three processes which include quality planning, quality assurance,

and quality control. Project resource management

This involves managing and at the same time assigning the organi- zation's resources like budgets, capacity, and team budgets. Resource planning involves identifying the necessary resources that are effective for your project. Project communication

management

This outlines the processes and procedures that are needed

to ensure that data and information throughout the life cycle of the project are properly collected, stored, and distributed across the project team. There are three primary steps in the communica- tion management process which include planning, managing, and

controlling. Project procurement management

This involves the management and optimization of a project's

budget as it applies to goods, resources, and services that will be

needed to complete the project.

This type of management requires negotiation with independent contractors and resolving disputes that may affect the whole

project. Project risk management

Risk is part of any given project and therefore there is a need for good ways of managing such risks. Risk management occurs in var- ious steps which include planning, identification, analysis, re-

sponse, and monitoring.
