    Factors that Affect Fertility (STDs) The factors that affect fertility include the negative effects that STDs cause on the reproductive system of humans.

    For example, Chlamydia and gonorrhea if not treated well can lead to the pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and infertility by causing the development of infections in the fallopian tube.

    PID is a common STD that affects fertility.

    Silent infection in the upper genital tract may cause permanent damage to the fallopian tubes, uterus, and surrounding tissues, which can lead to infertility (CDC).

    Besides, STDs also have an effect on male fertility.

    For instance, a disease such as Chlamydia if left untreated can spread to the urethra which can lead to a male being sterile permanently.

    Inflammatory markers rise in STD and PID because they infect the reproductive system and this leads to the creation of bacteria as a result of STD/PID infections to the cervix, urethra, and rectum.

    As a result, the cervix becomes colonized by microorganisms, which then go to the endometrium and fallopian tube.
