Introduction
2Concepts of resilience Client experience and interpretation Post traumatic growth Resilience in protecting well being
For the purpose of this assignment is selected a client who is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse to demonstrate the concept of resilience, the client interpreted and overcame the incident via use of mean making, sense making and benefit finding.
This presentation is further going to look at the post traumatic growth of the client and analyze the role of resilience in protecting wellbeing.
2
Resilience
2The ability to bounce back from a tragic event (Folke, 2016) An individual with good resilience bounces more quickly Supportive relationships in ones life help increase resilience The process aims at maintaining and reconstructing relationships subjected to trauma
Life has its fair share of challenges that we all face regardless of our different backgrounds.
Traumatic events in life may include death of loved ones, accidents or even serious illnesses that create long lasting impacts on lives of individuals.
Such challenges affect people differently and more so we all respond differently to such situations.
Resilience is what makes t possible to adapt to such adversities we face and bounce.
2An individual with great resilience is able to bounce back much faster than or quicker than an individual with less resilience. Resilience can be increased by having supportive and positive relationships in our lives.
3
Client experience
2The client experienced Childhood sexual abuse
The client reveals vague details of the experience
The client doesn’t understand why that happened to her.
The experience affected her socially and she had to withdraw from the society
The client experienced Childhood sexual abuse and describes it as a very dark moment in her life.
The client struggles with understanding why such an incident happened t her and claims the experience affected he social life that she had to withdraw herself from the society and would not want to interact with anyone.
She also claims at times she felt guilty that it was probably her fault but with time she has learnt to accept the events of what happened and that there was nothing she could have done.
4
Clients interpretation
2The client feels confused about the incident The client feels angry
The client feels dirty about herself
2The clients is disgusted by the flashback memories of the incident
The client blames the event for her antisocial behavior
The client struggles to make sense of the incident and doesn’t understand why the event happened.
She further claims to have felt dirty after the incident and feels angry about herself for letting it happened.
This is further worsened whenever she gets memories or flashbacks of the event which makes her feel more disgusted.
The client blames the event for her antisocial behavior and believes it has robbed her a part of her life she can never recover and she believes she would have turned out slightly different if it were not for the event.
5
Mean making
The client struggles to make sense of the incident
Client has resorted to avoiding reminders of the event
2The client tries to focus on the present and not the past
Mean making involves the process of trying to understand and making sense of a situation or incident that occurred.
The client struggles to make sense of the incident she has accepted that it happened and there is nothing she could have done.
Currently she tries to avoid reminders of the event by trying to focus on the present and not dwell on the past.
6
Sense making
The client accepted she cannot control everything especially actions of others
2The client accepted the incident was not her fault The client assigned the blame to the person who abused her
Sense making involves the process where the victim who has gone through a traumatic experience tries to reconcile current experience with previous beliefs.
For this case the client accepted that there are things she cannot control everything especially actions of others and that she was vulnerable as a child and stood no chance.
In order to properly move on the client came to the realization that she was not in anyway to blame for the abuse as she was just a child and has assigned the blame fully on the individual who abused and took advantage of her.
7
Benefit finding
The benefits identified by the victim from the trauma includes;
Religious growth
2Increase in knowledge of sexual abuse
Improved relationships
Improved parenting skills (Galatzer-Levy et al., 2018)
2The following are the benefits that the client found during the different adjustment periods of the trauma; Increased knowledge of sexual abuse
Improved parenting skills- the client believes the experience will make her a better parent who will be close to her kids and protect them always to ensure such events don’t happen to them
Religious growth- the experience has pulled the patient close to god and the client believes seeking refuge in the hands of god enabled her to find that peace and accept what happened.
Improved relationships- the client claims the experience made her meet and develop new relationships with fellow women who had gone through such.
8
2Post traumatic growth
3Post traumatic growth involves the positive personality change after experiencing trauma.
2In analyzing the post traumatic growth of the client we look at the following areas. the client appreciates life and recognizes that the are others who have gone through worse and were still unlucky not to bounce back Building relationships the client found a way to build and strengthen relationship with her family and also successfully managed to get married. Finding new possibilities in life Personal strength
Spiritual change- the client became more religious something he was not before in an attempt to find more inner peace

2Resilience in protecting well being Adapting to adversity Protection from depression
Reducing anxiety
2Regaining balance and stability Quick recovery from mental health problems (Friedberg & Malefakis, 2018)
Resilience is crucial as it helps an individual adapt an adversity and ensures the individual does not suffer from metal health problems and comes out strong in the end.
It is also significant in protecting individuals from going into depression or anxiety and enables an individual to get back to normal or regain stability after having experienced a traumatic event.
According to several studies an individual better resilience is able to recover quickly or adapt better to an adversity as compare to those individuals who lack or have less
10
Conclusion
