Being an American

American what a county to love, a place of wonders, people of different race, culture, and the

high-class profile. According to the author of fish and cheeks, who also believe that being

American is being a high profile, being a white, is being ignorant of where you are from. I agree

with Amy Tan but however she overrated and forgot who an American really is. because being

an American from my view is having privilege to fullest, having your full rights, and freedom to

any extended. Is also being anything, you want to be, is given a chance to survive and

opportunity to be successful to any level of your choice. a nation full of different diversity.

The Author Amy Tan, believes that being American is when you are from a rich

background, when you are having a white color. According to the Author Tan, she writes “when

I found out that my parent had invited the minister’s family over for Christmas eve dinner, I

cried. What would Robert think of our shabby Chinese Christmas?” that is, she felt ashamed of

her family, and her thought was full of what Robert will think of her. For example, the way her

relatives were licking the ends of their chopsticks was annoying to her and make her feel more

ashamed of herself before the minister and his family. I disagree with her that being America is

just not having a white color or from a rich background rather is being privileged. Achieving

your dreams, Is becoming whatever you really want to become, with out thinking of any

limitation, also having opportunity of making your own choices even your gender or sexual

dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for every one

with opportunity for each, according to the ability or achievement “ that is you can achieve

your dreams and be better and richer as ever . for example, my cousins who suddenly declared

he is a gay in my country has been facing discrimination on every side, he lost his job, he

couldn’t get another, his family disowned him and his friends left him, he was Frustrated just

because he accepted who he is. He was almost at the point of committing suicide, until he got a

visa to the United States of America. Immediately he go here everything changed, he got back

his grove, because he was accepted and respected is choice as being a guy. He got a good job,

went back to school for his master’s degree in one of the universities in America.

The author also believes that. Being an American is being ignorant of every other

culture, customs, and traditions. According to the Author, Amy Tan. fish cheeks, Writes “Amy

your favorite, “He said offering the tender fish cheek, I wanted to disappear” she writes that

Amy Tan almost disappear where her father offers her the fish cheek. She was more ashamed

when her dad offers her, her favorite because she was not thinking of the meal but how the

Robert will seeing her. she was not proud of her culture and tradition. She believes that her

culture is not in any way same class with the white and any other race looks shabby. I also

disagree because being American is having your full right, is knowing that every body is same

under the law. A basic right to every one that is an American unlike any other country, an

American respect and love the country and are ready to give anything for it. The right to

choose who to lead them. For example, my husband is from Africa and yet he has the right to

vote, right to medical care and lot more.

Being American is having your freedom to the fullest, freedom of speech, you have

freedom to say what ever want to without fear, freedom to vote, having the freedom to vote is

have the freedom to make your decision to make choices, freedom to self-sufficient, freedom

to education and any career of your choice. Like me, before I came to America I was not think

of being a nurse until I came to American, I never even thought it will be possible to be one.

Because it is different to go college or university as a woman where I come from, the believe

women has nothing to contribute some believes she is made to be in the kitchen and take care

of the kids and the house but coming here gave me the freedom to be who I want to be,

freedom to education.

In conclusion being American is having privilege to the fullest, have full right and

freedom to any extent. Which Is different from what Amy Tan believes, that being America is

being ignorant of other culture and being from the high class.
