Executive Summary

Problem:

Yahoo! has had dominated the internet market for a long period and it began to become worse and worse since the beginning of Mayer’s term. Also, after the manage board found out that revenue is declining, more and more problems starts to happen, Mayer started to cut the operating cost by laying off employees while she was approving hefty retention packages to stop brain drain and this was not the best strategy she could have opted for. This can be described as “Leadership” and “Low Employee Morale” from our textbook content.

This case could be the most critical one because the declining revenue and laying off her employees will make employees lost their trusts on her.

Recommendation:

The CEO, Marissa Mayer should change to another efficient and correct way to lead her team. The most important issue within her crew is getting the employees trust back or she will have to leave the company.

HR should stop laying off people and top management should be made their salaries based on their performance, like Marissa Mayer, her salary was not based on her performance. “Overpriced” CEO or any of employees will cause disappointed within the crew and it will prevent employees to show their best performance.
