The author of this course has spent three decades consulting with organizational managers at all level and in many environments throughout the US. Many of these consulting engagements have focused upon mitigating organizational problems relating to management or leadership practices. This experience and much other research strongly indicates that organizational problems often arise because managers are grossly unaware of ways in which they are torpedoing their own effectiveness. In contrast, those leaders and managers who deeply understand their own personal strengths and weaknesses and are aware of how these personal qualities and competencies play out in the organization context often rise to the top of their organizations. "Know thyself" is thus a true key to mastering the challenges of becoming a superior leader.
