Organizational culture at General Motors

General Motors is one of the leading motor companies in the world. It has a great and unique organizational culture which supports the enhancement efforts vital for automotive business. GE has a culture with significant characteristics that contributes to the success of various reforms essential to improving the position of the company in the automotive industry. According to the class lecture, company’s organizational cultures play a significant role in defining the company’s traditions, values and employee behaviors whether written or unwritten (Toliyat, 2018). At GE motors, the corporate culture focuses on promotion of the company’s agility in human resources. Agility helps GE motors to support the company’s goals and objectives by improving the overall performance amidst internal problems and competition from other companies like Ford and Toyota. That implies that with an agile workforce, GE motors continuously innovates, hence the stronger competitive advantage.

GE motors has an agile organizational culture which encourages speedy respond to organizational issues, problems and business opportunities. Thus, GE motors’ organizational culture exhibits the following characteristics; freedom and opportunity for growth, learning and evolution, fast thinking to maintain and sustain success, innovation and quality, responsibility and accountability and positive relationship for successful operations. Freedom and opportunity for growth, learning and evolution allows GE motors employees to address career development goals by having human resource programs to develop talents and skills among the employees (Toliyat, 2018). Fast thinking helps GE motors to access and address arising opportunities or threats relevant to the GE functionality and the general automotive industry. Therefore, fast thinking helps the company to maintain it improvement and success. GE motors also focuses on innovation of quality products because it gives it the ability to compete against other automotive companies. More so, responsibility and accountability plays a vital role in minimizing and mitigating problems in the organization. Having a positive relationship with the internal and external stakeholders helps GE motors to have a mutual beneficial relationship and working environment (Wise, 2020).

Even though GE motors has an advantageous organizational culture, I think innovation should go along with creativity and thinking out of box. Therefore, this paper provides an outline of the details of creativity and thinking out the box program essential for benefiting GE Motors Company.
