Instructions for Creating your Organizational Behavior Paper
Please do not submit this phase 3 assignment until after you have
submitted phases 1 and 2. It is also very helpful to read the “Effective Business Communications---The Life Languages Way” document that I
have posted in the system for you to read. The Key Terms included in the assignment below contains traditional Organizational Behavior Terms and
apply to both for profit and non-profit organizations.
The term Organizational Behavior refers to the art and science of understanding and managing people. The first step to effectively understanding and managing others is to certainly understand ourselves. The Organizational Behavior-in-Action Project is designed to help give us greater insights about ourselves as well as others. By doing so, we will have a much better understanding of the impact that we have on others as well as how to better communicate with and relate to others. Phase 3 Assignment. Listed below are 20 Key Organizational Behavior terms and concepts.. Select 15 of those terms and/or concepts and write a one- paragraph single-spaced explanation of how the information you learned about yourself and others through reading your Personalized Life Languages Profile and the other information provided in Phases 1 and 2 of this project will help you to be a more effective employee and/or manager---as it relates to each specific key term or concept.
Each paragraph should contain five or more sentences. Instructions: Please single space your work, with one blank line between each paragraph. Number each paragraph. Type each key term or concept in Bold print at the beginning of each paragraph---followed by a colon, two horizontal spaces, and then the paragraph in regular (not bold) print. Also, put in bold print each Life Languages term that you mention in your paragraph. (See the Actual Student Samples below.) IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER: Each paragraph you type regarding a specific key term must include specific statements about that term as it relates to any of your individual Life Languages and/or other information you learned about the Life Languages. Mention the specific Life Language or Languages as

you write about each key term. (See actual students’ sample comments below to read what other students have said when they completed this assignment.)
Below Are Actual Students’ Sample Comments: (These are Examples Only…Please Create Your Own Comments).
1. Diversity: In the business world today, with all the new technology diversity is magnified ten-fold. I like the fact, that the “influencer” in me is open to new ideas, people, and things. The language of Influencer allows me to be open to the diverse nature of today’s business world and the Mover and Doer in me allow me to communicate with them. I do however, intend on working on my Responder language to allow more of my emotions to come through, so that I will not come across as cold or insensitive to my peers. This class has taught me to identify and improve my weaknesses and to be proud and have confidence in my strengths. This knowledge will allow me to open up more to the diverse atmosphere in my business and help build the social culture in a positive manner.
2. Personality: When I was young, my grandma used to always say “it is easier to attract flies with honey instead of vinegar.” Why anyone would want to attract flies was beyond me at that time. However, now I have an understanding of that phrase and agree with it. In the work environment, as a manager, I would deal with many different personalities. Knowing that I am a high Contemplator and an introvert and low Responder language, I now know that I need to strengthen my social and emotional intelligence to be able to communicate better with several different personalities. This will enable me to be a more open and effective manager. I have developed a stronger self-concept through learning my life languages and will be better prepared to strengthen my personality to a more positive one.
3. Self-Concept: For the first time in my life, I have a better understanding of me and it has helped strengthen my self-concept considerably. This class has opened my eyes and mind to who I am and what makes me tick. I think everyone should have to take the Life Language Assessment and this class. Understanding yourself allows you to be able to interact with others better and that is necessary in the workplace to be an effective manager/employee. Having a better self-concept has enabled me to learn what my strengths and weaknesses are and will make me more of a whole individual, allowing me to be more confident. I believe that employees feel better with a strong, confident manager than with a questioning, weak one. As a high Influencer/Doer and moderate Responder, I also learned a lot about how to communicate through the positive traits and stay away from those distress signals of each language in order to help build the self- concept of others.
4. Emotions: As a high Responder, I have the ability to perceive when others are feeling sad or happy, depressed or overjoyed. By definition, this means I have emotional contagion. Managers who are in touch with their employees emotions can better motivate and lead them because they are able to respond correctly to their emotional needs. Employees will be grateful for managers who take a notice to these needs.

These simple observations can make an employee feel appreciated and increase the value of their work.
5. Social Capital: “Carpe Diem” or seize the day is one of the action phrases of my Mover Language. I do believe that this attitude is exactly what is required to create a positive environment, which is perfect for the creation of an excellent social capital. As manager of a company, I would say that it would be in the company’s best interest to “seize the day,” and create such a vibrant environment for our employees that they would love to come to work for us. Innovative thinking and an investment in our human capital would be the best draw for the talent out there. That is why my high Influencer Language is so important. Obtaining the best human capital through positive and alluring social capital would hopefully equate to a winning and profitable organization which would definitely appeal to my high end Mover and Contemplator languages. Maybe this would land the company in the Fortune 500 list as “the place to work”, which would definitely satisfy the “need to achieve” monster in me.
6. Culture Intelligence: The high Contemplator in me is what drives me to want “to know.” I have always had the desire to learn about other cultures and to travel the world. I want to immerse myself into other cultures and hopefully sharpen my skills of Cultural Intelligence. I do have concerns about myself as an introvert and low Producer, because while I have a desire to learn and have taken many culturally diverse classes, I seem to like solitude and some time find the thought of being around a lot of people unbearable. My desire to open myself up to new experiences and cultures, plus my ability to read people would be a great combination in the business world, because I would work on being open enough to increase my skills of cultural intelligence among my staff and send them out into different areas of the world to handle things on my behalf, when I am unable to do so myself. My moderate Influencer will also be a big help in developing my cultural intelligence.
7. Servant Leadership: I decided to start my project with leadership because of the importance that a good leadership has in today’s business world. As a High Shaper/Producer, my major desire in life is to lead, and I will do it with grace and thoughtfulness. I take leadership as a challenge and I am ready to put extra efforts in becoming a great leader and an asset to my company. I tend to be organized and strategic and by clearly communicating my plans, short-term and long-term goals to my team members and superiors, I will have a good base for success. However, my Responder and Influencer languages are low and I really need to improve my communications through these languages in order to be a true Servant Leader. I will do so by studying the positive characteristics of each language and practicing speaking through those languages. 8. Emotional Intelligence: By learning my life languages, I realize now that when I get stressed out, I tend to communicate a lot through the distress signals of my high Doer, Influencer, and Shaper languages. These are my top three languages. Now I know why I sometimes have trouble in my work and personal relationships. Also, my dad, who is also my boss, is a high Responder. This explains why I have conflicts with him, both at home and at work. Responder is my 6
th language. It is a low language for me and
this helps to explain why my Dad and I have not related well to each other. This amazing project has changed my life, and how I view myself and others. It is my responsible to make appropriate changes, based on what I have learned through this project. I will

definitely change my own behaviors and stop communicating through the distress signals. I will also try to determine others’ Life Languages and strive to relate to them through their stronger languages. By doing so, I will be demonstrating more emotional intelligence.
Instructions for Creating your Organizational Behavior Paper, Continued: Note To Students: Do not start your sentences with statements like “I learned”, or “Knowledge of this concept will help…..” etc., or any other repetitive statement that can be found in each of your 15 paragraphs. Please try to make your statements in each paragraph original and unique as it relates to that specific term or concept as you write about it--in relationship to the Life Languages. Make sure that you have read your Life Languages profile, as well as the information I provided for you in Phase 2 of this project. Also make sure that you thoroughly understand the key terms or concepts before typing each of your paragraphs. Feel free to refer back to the textbook to refresh your memory about the meaning of a term, if you need to. That will be fine. However, please do not type the definition or meaning of the term in your paragraph. And, please do number each paragraph when creating your report. As always, I look forward to reading your work.
