Nutrition Controversy Assignment: Organic or Not Organic?
(80 Points) This assignment is the first in the Nutrition Controversy Assignment
Organic foods are all the rage in some circles. Television’s Dr. Oz tells his audience to always eat organically grown foods. But what does it mean to be “organic”? Who decides? Is it really better? How? Why?
Option A
Consider these things when writing your persuasive summary.
· Choose a side: You can support organic farming (organic farming is better) or traditional farming (organic farming is not better).
· WHO and WHAT? Both side of the project require research into WHO decides what organic means, WHAT makes “organic” farms organic; what is the difference?
· Research. Both sides have to research the benefits and drawbacks of organic farming versus traditional farming. Those that are for organic farming will concentrate on any benefits and positives. Those in favor of traditional farming will downplay any benefits to organic farming and concentrate on the positives of traditional farming.
Option B
Consider these things when writing your persuasive summary.
· Chose a side: You can choose pro-organic food (organic foods are better) or pro-non-organic foods (they are both basically the same).
· WHO and WHAT? Both projects require the research into WHO decides what organic means, WHAT makes “organic” foods organic; what is the difference?
· Research. Both sides have to research the benefits and drawbacks of eating organic foods versus traditionally grown foods. Those who are for organic foods will concentrate on any benefits and positives. Those in favor of traditionally grown foods (non-organic) will downplay any benefits to organics and concentrate on the positive of traditionally grown foods.
