Topic: Risk and Occurrence of Hypertension in African American

Identification of Focus for Community Teaching (Topic Selection):

The focus of this community teaching program is health promotion/primary prevention for Hypertension.

Epidemiological Rationale for Topic (Statistics Related to Topic):

Hypertension also name as high blood pressure to consider as health problems that influence millions of persons globally. If it is not appropriately cared for, it can cause severe health problems like stroke and heart attack (Douglas, 2017). World Health Organization stated that about 1.3 billion persons suffer from high blood pressure globally. HTN is a leading cause of premature death worldwide, with skywards of 1 in 4 men and 1 in 5 women (“Hypertension,” 2020). Research shown that racial disparities in hypertension and associated disease has been known within the African American for years. The risks are greater among African American men and women than the Caucasian race.
