Article Summary

The article talks about what one would terms as a case of mistaken identity. Mr. Wilbert Jones from Louisiana was convicted in 1974 because of being alleged to have been convicted for a rape case that proceeded to trail but 45 years later, a district court judge decision allowed him to vacate him. The article highlights a number of areas that the court had to go through to guarantee his innocence. The article cites an unsure identification of the man by a woman who is claimed to have died in 2008 after Jones was convicted in 1974. Although when reading the article, one may realize that those fighting for the victim still have the chance of appealing on 1st December.

The article shows that in 1971, a nurse that was only identified as A.H., was raped and later she identified a man who was convicted as the person who had raped her in the parking lot. Although when one reads through the article, it is unclear of whether the person had gone through parole. The article further shows that many organizations in the criminal justice system fail to carry out their investigations in the appropriate manner. As noted by Emily Maw, the article further clarifies through the director of Innocence Project New Orleans that an unsure identification was a problem as it was enough for sending a man to jail for almost his entire life (Fortin, 2017).

The article ends by noting that Mr. Jones was now able to have some good rest as he had been freed after 45 years and ten months behind bars.
