COMPARISON BETWEEN REFOWRKS AND ZOTERO
Name:
Institution:
As a comparison between RefWorks and Zotero it should first be noted that RefWorks is only available and free to researchers who are members of NCSU community, on the other hand Zotero is available to everyone. It should also be noted that RefWorks works with any given browser ranging from Opera, Chrome and Firefox. On the other hand, Zotero only works with Firefox browser and hence for someone to be able to use he or she should have installed Firefox in his or her computer (Kozikowski, 2013). While using RefWorks, the saved citations will always be available from any computer via NCSU library site, on the other hand Zotero the latest version, it should be synced in order to make the citations are available from any computer. While RefWorks requires importing and exporting to the new windows, this is done in two separate, on the other hand, Zotero works within any browser on the same page and only requires a little manipulation as well as organization.
In terms of capturing websites, this functionality is available with RefWorks through the use of RefGrab-It extension on the other hand by default Zotero is able to capture websites. Annotation is available for RefWorks although it remains clunky, on the other hand, this functionality is available for Zotero although it requires the use of snapshots as well as tags. The citations that are made by the researcher through RefWorks can be shared through the creation of read-only logins or shared account. This means that the citations can be easily exported and send to other users for importing. On the other hand Zotero enables sharing of citations through the use of groups. Last but not least, the citations that have been made using Zotero are always secure as well as stable since they are saved on the server. On the other side, Zotero citations are more volatile since the citations are saved on the computer (Kozikowski, 2013). But the syncing options to save online and can be backed up on the library.
