Part 2b

Gun controls basically comprise of a set of laws and policies that govern the manufacture and possession of firearms in a country or a region. Different countries have different policies concerning how firearms are used. Diverse views have recent over the recent years concerning whether gun controls should be implemented or abolished. Some individuals are for the idea that there should be gun controls. To begin with, gun safety programs reduce the firearms threats on children. A report of the national rifle association indicated that since the introduction of the Eddie Eagle program children have been able to learn how to react when they are in an encounter with an unsupervised gun. Statistics indicate that since the inception of the safety programs about two-thirds of firearm accidents have reduced among children (Kleck, 2017).

In addition, having more guns doesn’t reduce the crime rate. Most individuals argue out that having more guns will reduce the crime rate which is not true. Instead, the crime rate will end up increasing since almost everyone will possess a gun for self-defense (Spitzer, 2015). Research indicates that in America most guns were used to threaten and not to defend. Moreover, gun ownership with strict controls may reduce gun violence. In this case, gun controls will reduce violence since most individuals possess guns and the controls will regulate how the guns are used. Similarly, gun safety and controls should begin from homes. Most cases of school shooting arise because the children involved grew up in a surrounding where guns were there and their parents didn’t bother to tell them about the guns. School shooting can be reduced by educating children about the guns early enough.

However, there are still individuals who are for the idea that gun controls are not important in any way and that they should not be implemented. To begin with, gun controls would not reduce school shootings in any way. This is because there are so many other factors that contribute to school shooting like mental illness and cultural background just to name a few. A child who has been brought up in an unfavorable background that is full of violence may end up getting involved in a school shooting. In this case, the shooting may not be as a result of the possession of the guns but because of the environment, the student has been brought up in. Moreover, Gun controls laws will not save lives. This is because there has not been measures set up to effectively stop the supply of guns in the market.

Besides, banning guns will end up increasing gang violence. Most individuals who reside in the United States possess a gun legally. However, there are still gang members who are perpetrators of most violence activities. These gang members possess their guns illegally and use these guns to commit acts of violence like killing people and committing bribery. In the event where guns are banned only those who possess them legally will submit them the other individual who possesses guns illegally such as the gang members will not submit their guns. In this scenario, gang violence will not have reduced in any way. The individuals who will be affected will be the other citizens since they will not have means of self-defense (Forster, 2015). Furthermore, gun controls should be done away with and fallacy control should be implemented. It is clear that most individuals are blinded with misleading arguments on firearms controls.

Part 2c

It is evident that gun controls are not effective and should not be regulated. As indicated above most arguments that favor the implementation of gun controls policies compromise the safety of the citizens. For instance, banning of guns completely will make the citizens lack the means to defend themselves when attacked by gang members who possess guns illegally. Also, gun controls may not benefit schools in any way since they may not reduce shooting incidences. If a parent does not inform their children about the dangers of guns and why they should not be used anyhow, it will be difficult for such a kid to understand anything about regulations and policies on gun controls. Likewise, gun controls are based on arguments that are untrue and not helpful. The authorities concerned with setting controls on guns should first ensure that the arguments they present to the citizens are true and not misleading in any way. Therefore, gun controls should not be implemented.
