Dealing With Diversity in America from Reconstruction
Political policies and movements in the period from 1865-1920 generally promoted diversity and ‘melting point’ despite the strong prejudices of a few. After the Civil war, it seems that America was able to rise and through that, it was able to attract many people from various European nations. There was a lot of diversity that can be explained with the development and policies that took place in America an all over the nation (Hoganson, 2018). Diversity was seen as a result of the industrial revolution regarding urbanization, entertainment, wealthy neighborhoods and in the case of immigration the immigrants were able to get property.
A position supported with examples
Immediately after the civil war, many changes took place within the north and south concerning factories coming up which was a way of diversity. Factories were able to employ a lot of people not only the Americans but others that had come from other nations in the name of immigrants. American turned out to be a haven for many others who wanted to make their life better. As a result of the industrial revolution, there was urbanization which brought a lot of enlightenment to the people. There were great things that were happening in the nation which cannot be washed away for any reason. A majority of Americans and even visitors started to live in urban centers (Andes et al., 2018). By the year 1900, there were so many Americans living within urban centers in the country.
Wealthy neighborhoods are the other thing that can try to stamp the issue of diversity within America. It came to a time when the environment that was inhabited by the Americans and other races like the Europeans had to be upgraded. For instance, in the issue of sewage, there was an improvement in most of the neighborhoods as there was a need to have an environment that was pleasing. A majority of dwellers wanted to have areas that would be inhabited with the necessary amenities. Recreational centers also came up together with institutions of education (Hoganson, 2018). There were social things such as swimming pools and all these speak to the fact that there was a lot of diversification that was taking place in the country.
Entertainment is the other factor that talks of how diversified America became after the civil war despite the many problems that were happening in the nation. It is worth noting that there were points that came up where people would stay up to late night listening to music and at the same time dancing to the tunes. At one time the elite class thought that such tendencies were immoral, but with time the entertainment life became accepted. Americans would mingle freely with others in the dancing and halls as they pushed the night away.
Immigration, on the other hand, brought a lot of freedom to the people. A majority of immigrants were able to earn a living, and it came to the point that the same immigrants became property owners. Through such tendencies, diversity is seen as it was difficult for many other people to have property of their own. However because immigrants were able to work their way out, they got to have what they wished to (Andes et al., 2018). All that is explained because of the desire to make life better and due to the diversity that was brought about after the civil war.
Opposing View
To say that diversity was not brought by political policies together with movements in the time of 1865-1920 is wrong. This is because many developments happened in that time and which happen to speak volumes of how Americans were able to live and conduct their issues (Kevin, 2018). The entertainment that was experienced in the nation is because of the civil war which made Americans seek for what they thought was right. Industrial revolution which brought up urbanization, wealthy neighborhoods among other things is a true demonstration that diversity was seen all over the nation. Immigrants being able to own property also cements the fact that diversity was evident after America had recovered from the war.
The life of today
There is with no doubt that the life of today has been significantly shaped by the civil war that happened in America long ago. With the segregation that took place after the civil war and during the civil war, there is a feeling today that segregation due to color has no place in the country. The workplace of today has been revolutionized too much that people are aware of their rights (Kevin, 2018). The birth of the American dream has also kept on shining making America thrive, and diversity has become so broad.A good example is how people all over the world want to visit the US.
