PEERS RESPONSE:
Hello all!
Starting with:
-18< 4x-2< 30 I will simply start this one by adding 2 to all three parts
+2. +2. +2 This will then take the two out of the middle section
-16< 4x< 32 Next, I will divide all three parts by 4.
4. 4. 4
-4< x< 8 And this is my final answer. This is also how you write a compound inequality algebraically.
This can be written as an intersection down below:
[-4, ∞) U (∞, 8]
This can also be drawn out as below:
-------[-------/------]----
-4. 0. 8.
Now for my “or” compound inequality I have two different equations:
2x+1<-5 or 2+3x>11
The first one I am going to work out will be 2x1<-5
2x+1<-5 First step is to subtract the 1 from both sides
-1 -1
2x<-6 Second you will then divide each side by two
/2. /2
X<-3 And this is what I am left with for the first part of my “or”
Now for the second equation I will be doing almost the exact same thing.
2+3x>11 First step for this equation will be to subtract the 2 from both sides
-2. -2
3x>-9. Second step is the exact same. Divide each side by 3
/3. /3.
x>3. And this is my final equation for the second part of my “or”
This can be written as an intersection below”
[-∞, -3) U (3, ∞]
This can also be drawn out as below
----[-------/-----/----/------]----
- ∞. -3. 0 3. ∞
