I had all the books when I first found out I was pregnant with my oldest, but I didn't take the time to read them. It was something I wish I would have done. When I had my children they did not make us do the skin on skin contact but I did keep my both my girls in my room the whole time except when they had to be checked (rooming in). I think the skin on skin contact is an important thing to do and wish I would have done it.
I did have some knowledge of the competency that newborns have but some thing I was not aware of. I did find the developmental stage of the brain at this age was very interesting. One thing I did not know was the stages of sleep and that in the REM state is when the eyes dart back and fourth, heart rate, and breathing are uneven, and slight body movement, brain waves are remarkable. This makes up about 50 percent of a newborns sleep time. During regular sleep or NREM the body is almost motionless, the brain waves, heart rate and breathing are slow and even. Newborns spend more time in REM than they ever will, and it is associated with dreaming.
Relationship-focused intervention, a coparenting-focused intervention, or a control group receiving written materials about infant care. As shown here, women receiving either intervention reported far more favorable coparenting throughout their baby’s first two years than did control-group women. Women’s relationship satisfaction with their partners showed similar post-birth trends. These all play a role in the development of all children. (From B. D.
