Informative Presentation Self Critique Paper

After delivering a speech, you should spend some time critically reflecting on it. You

must complete a self-critique of your speech. You will need to view your speech and

write a short paper evaluating it according to the standards set in class. Your self-critique

will be assessed based on your ability to provide clear, insightful, and accurate analysis.

requirements and instructions for obtaining and viewing your performance.

Assignment Objectives

To examine your reactions to communication apprehension and identify areas for

improvement in public/presentation speaking.

Assignment Requirements

Note: All papers must be typed, double-spaced, written in essay format and stapled

in the upper left corner. All papers are due the following week after your presentation. No exceptions! Your paper should respond to all of the following

questions in detail (please do not give me one word answers):

Evaluate your last classroom presentation by responding to the questions listed below.

As you analyze your performance, consider your own reactions, your personal opinion of

your performance, audience reactions during your presentation, feedback from peers or

instructor evaluations, and/or observations from viewing your videotape of your

presentation.

• How well did you introduce your speech?

• How well did you establish credibility?

• How well did you establish speaker-audience-topic connections?

• Did you motivate your audience to listen?

• Did you reveal your topic?

• Did you establish goodwill?

• Did you preview your points? How effective were they in your presentation?

• How nervous or anxious did you feel before, during, and immediately after your

presentation?

• How well did you reinstate your main ideas?

• What were the major concerns or fears that contributed to your nervousness?

• How do you believe communication apprehension affected your performance?

• What strategies did you use to cope with your anxiety?

• Which aspects of your presentation were most successful?

• What did you do prior to your presentation that contributes to your success?

• Which aspects of your presentation need improvement?

• How do you plan to improve these areas for your next presentation?

• List the action steps that you plan to take that will help you improve these areas for

your next presentation.
