Observation Paper

1. (a) What is the business’ name & address?

The business I visit is Starbucks Coffee Company. The store I visited is 505-A Grand Ave, Walnut, CA 91791. This Starbucks is located in the Village West, next to the Nature’s Juice.

1. (b) When did you conduct the observation (date and time frame)?

The day I visited was Saturday, November 11, 2017.

2. (a) What is the product?

The product I observe is the hot sale coffee beans in Starbucks, called Thanks Giving Blend. It is almost everywhere in the store. The coffee beans are the whole beans in the bag.

2. (b) Describe how it is used.

Once the consumers buy it, they can ask for grating into different levels of fineness, depends on the tastes and favors. Then, the staffs will put back into the bag and the consumers can bring back home. Also, every time when consumers want to drink in the Starbucks store, they can bring the beans with the package and ask the staffs to brewing. In addition, the consumers can bring the whole beans back home and grate by themselves.

3. (a) What is the pricing of the product?

There are three different prices of the product. The whole beans cost $14.95 per lb. the K-Cup Pods cost $12.95 with 24 packs. And the Verismo Pods with 12 packs cost $12.95. The different prices with different package offer various choices for consumers.

3. (b) How does the business appear to stay competitive?

The business keeps this product in competitive because of the grand. The Starbucks is the biggest coffee shop in America, which brings the consumers to buy and trust their products.

4. How does the business put the product in a place where people are enticed to buy it?

As I observe, there are several products putted in the area where consumers are waiting to order and getting their cups of coffee. So, when they are waiting the coffee, they will see the products. There is a big basket that contains three different prices of products just in front of the order table.

5. How does the business promote their product?

For promotion, the Starbucks pack the coffee beans nicely. It uses the art fronts with beautiful picture to let it seem pretty. In the windows, the store drew some pictures that related to the holiday, to let people relate them together.
