a. Nutrition Scientific Research Reviews – General Nutrition:
Read and summarize one scientific nutrition research paper on general nutrition of interest to you. The article must come from peer-reviewed journals, such as the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Journal of the American Dietetic Association, Journal of the American Medical Association, etc. (Ask me if you need to clarify this.) Include a summary of the purpose of the study, methods used, the results and the conclusion of the researchers. Usually, to describe a research paper you use “Introduction”, “Materials and Methods”, “Results” and “Discussion/Conclusion”.
b. Popular Nutrition Critique:
Use your knowledge of nutritional sciences to evaluate two sports/nutrition-related articles from popular magazines (Muscle and Fitness, Mademoiselle, American Health, Redbook, Newsweek, Time, Prevention, your choice, etc.). You choose the articles and evaluate them critically for reliable information, sound scientific principles, interest to the public, false or misleading claims, credentials of the authors, etc.
In the paper, you will present an overview of some aspect of nutrition, perhaps including historical precedents as well as future directions. Be sure that the paper reflects this class. “AVOID RECYCLED PAPERS”. Read comment on plagiarism. The paper must be 4-6 pages (of writing, this doesn’t count the other stuff like title page and references), use several sources, in APA format (including a title page, references, etc.).

A few notes about the papers to keep in mind as you are planning on writing your paper. If you are submitting a diet plan for someone, be sure to mention nutrient requirements, kcals, and portion sizes in your diet plan. If you are submitting an article critique, why is each article good/bad? Be sure to back up your claims with course info. For all paper options, but especially the journal article summary and magazine article critiques, be sure to properly cite your sources on a reference page and remember than anything taken directly from the article should be in quotation marks.
