Introduction

In the healthcare sector, nurse burnout is a scenario where health care providers feel existed while still delivering the health services to the patients. This causes the nurses to feel like they have existed emotionally and they also feel frustrated. When the healthcare providers practice their work during this time, they may cause some effects like reducing the efficiency of work and much more. It is advisable that whenever a nurse feels burnout, they should hold on to avoid some errors that might occur. Some of the sighs of burnout might be, fatigue when a nurse feels they are overworked and much more. To the healthcare providers, the burnout might also cause very fatal problems like depression, sleeping problems, and much more. Research shows that every year there are several cases of burnout that are being reported. The same research elaborated that the coast of nurse burnout yearly can range from 5.1 to 8.1 million dollars. In this paper, we will focus on the problem of nurse burnout during a pandemic.

Clinical Question

Description of Problem

In this research, the problem to be talked about is the effects of nursing burnout during pandemic. The pandemic to talk about is the COVID 19 pandemic. It has been realized that during the pandemic, the healthcare workers have been having a hard time working long hours and this is due to the increase of patients in the healthcare facilities during the pandemic.

The significance of Problem

The problem is very important in the healthcare sector. This is because it has been realized that nursing burnout has caused the medical teams and the departments of medication a lot. This is by causing some issues like medical errors, depression, sleeping problems of the healthcare providers, lack of quality medication services, and much more. Research shows that most of the medication errors that have been reported are due to nursing burnout and the effect of burnout in the healthcare sector has been estimated to be around 5.1 to 8.1 USD loss every year. Nursing burnout makes nurses feel like they do not want to work however due to rules and regulations and maybe the state of the patients, they are still tied at work positions despite the burnout problems.

Purpose of Paper

The main purpose of this paper is to study the nursing burnout during a pandemic. We will focus on the problems associated with the nursing burnout and we will talk about the latest research that has been done on the same topic for instance the effects and the prevalence of nursing burnout in the healthcare sector during COVID 19 pandemic (Zhou et al., 2020).

Describe the data in the Matrix Table,

Compare and contrast variables within each study

According to Talaee et al., 2020, the independent variable is stress and burnout where it was released that during COVID 19 pandemic, stress and nurse burnout affected the dependent variable which is the healthcare workers. On the other hand, according to Zhou et al., 2020, the independent variable ProQOL which was used to assess burnout in nurses concluded that among the things to be affected by the burnout, self-reported hand hygiene of the healthcare workers was the major cause during the pandemic.

What are the study designs?

According to the article Talaee et al., 2020, they use qualitative analysis to come up with the questionnaires that could be used to monitor the nurse burnout during the COVID 19 pandemic. On the other hand, the article Zhou et al., 2020, also applied the same qualitative method of research in coming up with the prevalence and impacts of burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion satisfaction on hand hygiene of healthcare workers in medical aid team during COVID-19 pandemic. All the researchers saw it right to use the qualitative method since they wanted to know reasons for why things happen and not dealing with numerical analysis.

Participants

The participants that were used in both the study were the healthcare workers. Where in the first article, around 60 healthcare workers were incorporated in the study about validating the questionnaire, and on the other side, around 1734 healthcare workers were asked questions concerning the problem in question.

Answer to “Purpose” Question

The research finding provides evidence for the clinical problem since, the first article shows how a questionnaire can be used during the pandemic to study the nursing burnout while on the other hand; the second article shows the prevalence and the impact of burnout to the hand hygiene of the healthcare nurses during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Next Step

The next step to be talked about in the group after studying nurse burnout is that; the group should discuss the question of why nurses find it difficult to deal with burnout in the healthcare facilities. Secondly, the group can also major on how to prevent nursing burnout in the healthcare facility.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we can say that during the COVID 19 pandemic, the effect of nursing burnout was effective and that led to different research to ensure that the burnout does not happen again in case another pandemic occurs. For instance, the article by Talaee was to come up with a questionnaire that is valid to aid in monitoring the nursing burnout in the healthcare sectors. This was after knowing that in most cases; nursing burnout and stress are the most problems that nurse face in case a pandemic occurs.
