Assignment Guidelines:

For this assignment, you will create an APA format paper on the use of Health Information Technology (HIT) and the Internet to disseminate health information and explore educational initiatives, social media in health care, and to support patient safety. Nursing Informatics includes the exploration of advances being made in Health Information Technology (HIT) and patient safety. The Joint Commission plays an integral role in a Systems Approach to Safety. The Joint Commission became involved in 2008 with the Sentinel Event Alert on 'Safely Implementing Health Information and Converging Technologies.' This includes Health Technology related hazards, close calls, and sentinel events. This resulted in the Joint Commission's release of Sentinel Event's alert on safe use of HIT including social and technological factors having an impact on safe use.
