As part of my reflections regarding Nursing Informatics (NI), I have gained a greater appreciation for our role in keeping current, relevant information streaming for the use of sharing that information across various modes of technology including computers and other wireless devices. I learned about the great need to keep our patient’s health information secure in a world were breaches are inevitable. I also learned there is growing demand for specialists in Nursing Informatics to design, implement, and track the progress of keeping all information safe, accessible, and strengthen the quality of our healthcare system now and moving forward. We have all had the opportunity to learn and share our thoughts with trends and issues in NI and the impact it has made in our practice. From use copy and paste, ST adoption to BYOD. We have also touched on ethical and legal issues arising from NI practice.
My Nursing Informatics skills are slowly developing, and with the exposure to this course, I have gained more knowledge, and I am more able to understand some terminology about NI and its usage. We learned about the DIKW framework and its impact on the nursing practice. Ronquillo, Currie & Rodney (2016) reported that a foundational conceptual approach described by Graves and Corcoran as central to nursing informatics is the data, information, knowledge, wisdom (DIKW) framework, which continues to play a central role in the field today. Then the SELF ASSESSMENT OF TIGER NURSING INFORMATICS COMPETENCIES (TANIC) pre-and post showed an improvement in my skills of computer knowledge.

Good afternoon Gonzalo I completely agree with you that prior to this class I did not think much of informatics. Based on my very limited understanding of the subject, I have gained a deeper perception of what Telehealth can offer to the healthcare system and surely the convenience aspect for our end consumers. Before your presentation, I thought Telehealth involved calls to a medical professional like a nurse with symptoms in order to provide the caller with advice whether to seek medical attention from his/her primary care physician or from the emergency room. I also thought it involved the interest of the insurance company in a more pronounced way. But after your lesson on the vast scope of Telehealth, I greatly appreciated its far reaches in helping our patients receive excellent healthcare services.
Thanks again.
