For your initial post in this discussion, please include an explanation of how these nonverbal dynamics are presented in the clip:

· Haptics

· Chronemics

· Eye behaviors

· Vocalics

· Gestures

Part II. Think about where you have seen this same nonverbal cue(s) in your own life. Share a personal example in which you explain where you have witnessed these nonverbal communication cues. What was the situation? How did the nonverbal communication affect the verbal communication? What other terms from chapter 8 were present in your interaction?

Then respond to 2 Peers:

Peer 1: (Nate)

I will start with the movie's very end and then work my way to the beginning. In the very end, the credits were rolling, so we, as the viewers, could not see anything. Although it was through the context clues and the use of Vocalics at the very end, we could identify what was going on. I also thought that they made excellent use of Chronemics as I was not bored and entertained throughout. Also, how they made use of the eye behaviors made me laugh out loud. No words, yet the same indication that I got was that of a soft touch and acceptance for the little green man who could not-or, I should say- did not know how to control the ship at all. The Gestures throughout also made it very easy to follow and maintained the flow of the flick. I also like their use of Haptics, specifically when it came to the green man and the large plump gentlemen. The green guy pushed him out of the way, which was made evident by the indentation he left on his belly.

I was at work once- I used to work at a senior center-; we had two buildings: one for acute care and the other for assisted living. We would also play these games with our residents as many could only communicate nonverbally. They used sounds and hand gestures to queue us on what they wanted to do and were trying to explain to us. Also, the use of Haptics was a massive help to us as we could read context clues to come to their aid and, ultimately, their understanding.
