NoJax Company

As earlier mentioned, NoJax Inc. is an American company which is small that manufactures and designs accessories, clothing and athletic shoes that are specialized. Presently, it has four vital areas of concentration: apparels for lifting weights, shoes used for weight lifting, apparel designed for running and shoes for running (Judge & Zapata,2015).

Organization behavior is the application and study of material concerning how a group of people or an individual behaves within an organization. It is the main trait used in enhancing and maintaining levels of interaction among the staff inside a business.

Organizational behavior structure characteristics

Behind each great team, division or company, is an exceptional organizational structure, that is, a structure, which gets tailored to the company’s goals and helps the workers comprehend how they fit together. Without the right structure, NoJax company could collapse or fail to function effectively. It is because, “Poor organizational design and structure results in a bewildering morass of contradictions: confusion within roles, a lack of coordination among functions, failure to share ideas, and slow decision-making bring managers unnecessary complexity, stress, and conflict.”

Some of the building blocks of an organizational structure are:

i. Chain of Command

This means a line of authority which is not broken and extends from the CEO, that is, the top of a company to its very bottom. It sheds light on how individuals should report to their managers within the business. In Nojax Company, it is essential to maintain a clear chain or route with which the members of staff ought to follow to maximize productivity.

ii. Span of Control

This denotes the total number of juniors a superior can manage efficiently. To achieve a wider span of control, the ratio of subordinates to superiors is expected to be high. With such a structure, everyone in NoJax is aware of their roles and does not undermine others and subordinate adhere to their superiors.

iii. Departmentalization

It is the procedure of putting jobs together so as to aid in coordinating common tasks and activities. NoJax company has a loose departmentalization since it comprises of teams which have more freedom of collaboration and interaction (Zhang, et. Al, 2017). A rigid departmentalization is one which there is little or no interaction between various employees.

iv. Specialization

Division of labor is the gradation to which tasks or activities in a company get divided and broken down into singular jobs. NoJax has high specialization making it beneficial as it permits workers become pros in particular regions thus improving their productivity.

NoJax Organizational Structure

According to the NoJax document, it is clear that the company uses a matrix organizational structure. That is, the structure of the company shows thee reporting relationships being set up as a matrix or a grid instead of the traditional chain of command. In NoJax, there are four varying product types that are overseen by for product managers (O’Neill, Beauvais & Scholl, 2016). Also, workers have dual reportage associations- generally to both a product manager and functional manager. This structure has positive impacts because:

i. Projects and products get formally coordinated across departments that are functional.

ii. There is efficient utilization of resources as equipment and experts get shared across various projects.

iii. Like seen from NoJax company document, workers are in contact with most individuals therefore aids with information sharing and speeds up the process of decision making.

For NoJax’s success, decision-making power, ease of communication and creativity rank in the same order regarding their importance. Managers such as Orlando Grant have a high level of openness, making communication easy within the organization. The Running Apparel Product Manager, Jessie Mercado maintains a high power in decision making since she is highly conscious thus effective for Nojax.

As earlier mentioned, chain of command is a trait we see in an organization structure. NoJax, in our case successfully cultivates this characteristic because we see different managers assigned their various tasks and having their subordinates. The four product managers listed oversee a total number of around 50 workers at NoJax Inc.
