Do I remember the noise? Yes sir I remember it as being one of the scariest time in mine and my husbands life.

My husband has been a member of the US Coast Guard for 18 years. So the government shut down hit us harder than most. I left a well paying job to start my path into nursing while raising a 3 year old. We had a small savings but knew that it wouldn't last long with groceries, mortgage, and daycare. "More than 400 thousand federal employees continued to work without getting their scheduled paychecks"(Government, 2019) I often heard "the coast guard isn't a real military branch" and found myself trying to defend my husbands countless sacrifices for this country. I found myself tiptoeing towards dropping out of school while praying I wouldn't have to in order to continue to put food on the table. "February 14, 2019, Congress approved a $333 billion budget" that included only a fraction of the funding requested by the Executive branch for construction of a wall along the southern United States border. It maid the powers that be happy enough to open the government and fund the DOD. Thankfully a bill has been introduced called "Pay the Coast Guard Act" stating  the bill will "provide continuing appropriations to the U.S. Coast Guard for any period during which interim or full-year appropriations for the Coast Guard are not in effect." (United States,2019) I pray that our President and Congress can come to conclusions faster so people who serve aren't punished.
