Question 1

Physical therapy is key to improving a person’s condition who is suffering from type 2 diabetes. Ensure they always get a good balanced diet is key because it improves medical conditions such as diabetes. Poor food and exercise options lead to obesity, and at least 97 million people in America are battling obesity and its effects. The result is an entire population in future that is characterized by unhealthy ageing. Its connection to adult life and childhood however draws some interesting findings. It is a well known fact for example that obesity at childhood can most likely cause obesity in adulthood. However the aspect of how a child becomes diabetic as a result of one or both parents being diabetic is unknown. In his article, research was conducted to understand the link between diabetes during the subject’s young adult life and the genetic link to one’s parents. It was concluded as part of its results that there is a low risk for children under the age of three to become obese if they did not have any obese parent. However among older children they might most likely be obese in adulthood if one was obese in childhood. This was regardless of the fact that none of the parents may be obese.

Poor food choices have contributed to a large part of the urban adult and youth population being diabetic, as stated above. The average resident of the city is most likely to ask for a burger instead of a fruit, and this is where the problem lies. The medical hazards of diabetes are highlighted by Pi-Sunyer (1993). The potential dangers of obesity are also related and are highlighted as insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus, hypertriglyceridemia, decreased levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and increased levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. It is also mentioned as being linked with the disease of the gallbladder and various types of cancer. The other diseases linked with obese conditions in the article are sleep apnea, chronic hypoxia and hypercapnia, and degenerative joint disease. When it comes to coronary heart disease,obesity is termed as independent risk factor.

On a larger social level, neglect of monitoring the child's health by a parent is another environmental factor that leads to diabetes (de Zwaan, 2001). The neglect by the government to establish moral codes of conduct at times in the media also leads to the propagation of negative content that portrays women as slim and thus beautiful which is a wrong stereotype. The fact that there is the virtual web platform does not help either. This is because women have become obsessed with ‘likes' and user reactions such as comments on their photographs that are posted on various social media platforms.If a photo receives more reviews positively and she looks slim for example,she is more likely to want to stay that way. Genetic and environmental factors are thus to different extents responsible for the onset of eating disorders and should be identifed and prevented. It is a delicate issue since it affects one even from childhood.

The level of activities that people leaving with diabetes in my country engage in varies based on the degree of illness. One case case study involves Tom who is a CEO of a hospital in Saudi Arabia . A few weeks ago he started receiving complaints of the nurses threatening to go on strike after they accused the doctors and other senior staff of harassment and intimidation. Most of the doctors and surgeons come from John Hopkins and Yale, which sort of gives them a feeling of superiority over their juniors. The case has escalated enough to reach a point where there is a go slow by nurses. The case here involves elements of the conflict and functionalist theories. For the diabetic patients, it is important to loom at this through the lens of the functionalist theory.

“The functionalist theory was developed by Emile Durkheim,who sought to find out how the collective society maintains its stability over time. He borrowed his ideas from the traditional society that had small villages that were deeply connected (Steinmetz, 2018). This was because in most cases an individual village had a single extended family, and therefore the family had to find a way to function as a complete unit. Once it did, then the collective society flourished and was functional as a collective unit. This was the basis of most of the cultural elements of the traditional society, from trade, war and education. Members were chosen based on which family you came from since it was the basic unit of society.”

“The theory goes further to state that the modern society is at risk of dysfunction since the family is in most cases not close enough or functioning as a single unit .This is what is happening to Tom and his hospital (Cantir & Kaarbo, 2012). He tried to get the modern society to embrace the idea of solidarity in society as a basic ingredient for it to function and this has been the subject of his critics. They counter his argument by saying despite the fact that society does not rely on family as the basic unit of society in most cases, the overall stability of society still exists (Khan, et al., 2017). According to the theory, society works like an organism, with every organ just as vital as the next.This is also criticized however,with critics saying that the society cannot work like the body.”

“The conflict theory on the other hand, is a theory that theories to explain the cultural elements of Saudi diabetics from a perspective of conflict. According to the theory, the overall society is undergoing constant change which is facilitated by the fact that there are minimal resources available and therefore people have to fight for them (Groysberg, et al., 2018). It looks at the hospital not as a technical system like its counterpart above, but as a competition in itself. This is a particularly helpful trait because in most cases the elements of change that are seen in society are sometimes difficult to explain in a collective format (Hallowell, 2017). Based on the conflict theory however, it is easy for example to understand why the elements of colonialism, slavery and the civil rights movement all took place. The existence of social classes that are so difficult to overcome for the marginalized nurses in Tom’s case is also easy to understand based on the theory. The rich are few, and they control the resources that the poor need to overcome their poverty. The conflict therefore comes from the poor trying on their part to acquire as much resources as they can to survive and this leads to social injustice. The doctors see that they have better education ad pay, which causes conflict.”

Community based organization would greatly help diabetics have home based care for their illness and at the same time give him time to supervise and be close to his son, John. The man is legally blind, has a heart problem and a depressed son to take care off. Element Care is a specialized organization that would be able to have nurses and doctors at his premises to take care of him during his moment of illness. The organization has an eligibility process that Mr. Sparrow qualifies for,and this includes an minimum age of 50 and a need for healthcare services at home for the client (Mayfield-Johnson, et al., 2020). The organization is greatly tailored towards affordability, and accepts insurance payments from Medicare and the Affordable Healthcare Act.

They are also tailored to help the patient achieve the path to recovery,which includes taking them to and from medical appointments in other medical institutions, giving them their medicine and employing technology based health services (Goldfield, et al., 2020). These include blood and heart rate monitoring gadgets and other important first aid equipment. Such services would greatly benefit Mr. Sparrow who is also blind due to the personalized way they are delivered. He may be in need of a help in order to move around,and Element Care would greatly help him achieve this. He also has a heart condition which needs constant monitoring and maybe have a doctor on standby.

In doing this, Mr.Sparrow would also be helping John who is depressed achieve his own path to wellness. John would benefit by seeing his father up-close and being with him at home as opposed to him being wheeled away to a home for the aged (Kusumawardani, et al., 2020). The proximity between them would greatly help especially considering that the issue of depression for John started after the death of his mother,and this meant that taking away his father would most probably do more harm than good.

The Saudi Based organization is the best option for diabetics to use overcome his issue of depression. It is an organization that is tailored towards helping patients with all kinds of mental health issues in the Texas area and this include ADHD and depression. They usually involve a process of one booking an appointment online with any one of the available mental health practitioners in the company’s website (Goldfield, et al., 2020). The company then sets up and takes one through the actual recovery process. I believe they would greatly help John attain full recovery even from arthritis because they would also help him process and come to terms with the death of his mother.

His closeness with his father also will be greatly improved and this will help him recover. Mental health is very important for physical recovery,and this means that if John gets the attention he needs from the organization,he might have an even speedier recovery from Arthritis. The organization,just like Element Care also uses the latest forms of technology to treat their patients,and John would greatly benefit from this.

Type 2 diabetes is one of the most commonly downplayed ailments in recent times especially because it does not have any physical symptoms. It is one of the most common influencers of suicide in Saudi Arabia and this means that patients would have suffered unknowingly for quite a long time. The integration of the organization's service into their treatment schedule as mentioned will also help his father with his own recovery path. The two need to be with each other during this period,and Mr. Sparrow would feel even more comfortable with John being around and in good spirits around. The problem with depression is that it affects even people who are around the patient and it may also lead them to depression. In this case, they would be very depressed if he did not have a way to help his son or have inadequate access from the best healthcare he may need. He would have gotten even more sick as a result and this would have had a similar effect on his son. It is therefore safe to say that in the case of mental health, the mind is a very important aspect for the body to heal and the same applies to the body. A combination and balance of the two factors is therefore the most important thing for wellness.
