Similarities Between Florence Nightingale and Catherine McCauley

Introduction

People have been raised with hearing “to be successful is to be respected”. In this competitive society, everyone wants to be something that society adores and respects the most. Some people want to become Engineer, Doctor, Businessman or an Artist. While some prefer to be civilian or go for military corps. However, But it used to be very rare back then for when people a person to wanted would like to become or want to pursue the less desired professions of like Nursing back then. In the present world, Agree or not but nNursing is now considered to be the soul or heart of healthcare or work of the heart in the present world. The history, books, or any written documents are filled with praising Doctors in the Medical field but it is quite unusual when the credit is given to Nursing staff (Boyd & Dancer,2012). Actually, the fact is that this world has produced so many philanthropists and most of them are associated with nursing or related disciplines. So, in order to highlight the significance of the nursing profession and identifying the common traits of people who are associated with in this field, this e present essay is intended to write at least paper will discuss five similitudes between Florence Nightingale and Catherine Mcauley. Florence Nightingale and Catherine McAauley weare the two most influential personalities in the healthcare discipline. Florence Nightingale was a British social reformer and nurse who is known as “The Lady With the Lamp”. The Nightingale training school and St. Thomas Hospital were being established by her (Godden,2008). While Catherin McAauley was an Irish Catholic Laywoman. She wasis known for spending her whole inheritance on poor people and constantly working for the economic development of underprivileged people around her. Catherine McAauley and Florence Nightingale hadve a great impact on the nursing profession in similar ways. Both the personalities have similar determination and passion which helped to introduce the concept of the nursing profession to the individuals. Nightingale and McAauley had similar qualities like helping needy people, selfless love for God’s creation, always saw the good in other individuals, work really hard, and put their full efforts to accomplish their goals in portraying nursing in a professional and better way. Building foundations for the betterment of people are another similarity between Florence and Catherine. Catherine established fourteen foundations while Nightingale’s Thomas hospital and training foundation are much of importance. Moreover, they both did not marry to serve the needy people. Catherine gave up the chance to make her own family just to follow her passion to a nun and so did Florence. Another way McAauley and Nightingale are similar is that both belonged to wealthy families and could enjoy a luxurious life yet they chose to help others and spent their lives in a simple manner. In the During the Victorian era, women were not expected to work as much as they are doing right now. Also, the women who had a rich family background would not go out to do Jobs. Nightingale, on the other hand, chose to be a nurse. At the age of 16, she decided to become a nurse as she would say “God is calling me out to do something important for his poor creation”. Instead of getting married and lying-in bed all the time like a typical woman of that time, Florence dedicated her whole life to nursing. While on the other hand, Catherine spent her total money on helping poor women who were subjected to obey their owners or masters. The most important similarity between them is their struggle and courage which did not let them give up. Catherine had to go through a difficult journey to accomplish her goals like one she made difficult journeys to be with founding convents by canal boat, stagecoach, and railway (McNally,2005). Similarly, in during the Crimean war, Florence worked as an only female nurse to take care of injured soldiers which was an act of courage.
