Everyone has made mistakes in life. Your past is your past and you learn to grow from it. No matter what you have gone through good or bad, it won’t define you of who you are.
Background
Are past can be filled with darkness, like sexual abuse, drug addiction, fear, and domestic violence. Are past can also be filled with light, like great families, happy childhood, and great adventures. All past are different, but mostly are pasts are filled with lightness and darkness. We can’t let are past define who we are and what we become.
Are Past Defines Us
So many people have been controlled by their past and they have lived in failure, because what they have experienced. They have let the past define them and are still living the life they did years ago. Think about the jock from high school who is still out there partying and still living the life of a star athlete. He is no longer a teenager or in top physical shape. He really is in his 40’s. He has a beer gut, health problems, and is an alcoholic who can’t stop. Then you have the beauty pageant mom who never won a contest, but is parading around her child to be the next Miss America. They choose to let their past define and control them.
Are Past Doesn’t Define Us
We all have a past, but we don’t let it define your future. We have all made mistakes in the past and I should know. We have to accept that we cannot change the past, but we can choose how to react to it. We look at the past as not a negative, but a valuable lesson we can use today. The future is not your past, your future is right now with endless possibilities. We are shaped by are past and not bound by it or defined by it. We move forward from are past and make something greater. Ben Carson who was poor growing up and raised by his mother. Had a terrible time in school and had an extreme temper. Few people expected him to not to amount to much. His mother made him read books and do a report on the books. She would not give up on him and let him become a statistic. He eventually graduate with honors from high school, graduated from Yale and then earned his M.D. from Michigan. He could let his past define him, but he didn’t. He was able to overcome his adversities and rise up. Steve Maraboli said, “My past has not defined me, destroyed me, deterred me, or defeated me; it has only strengthened me.”
Conclusion
Don’t let your past define your future. What matters is what you are going to do right now. Let your past be a story and how it made you a stronger person. Make decision to learn from your past and use it for today. So you can live the life you wanted.
Add Title Here, up to 12 Words, on One to Two Lines
The body of your paper uses a half-inch first line indent and is double-spaced. APA style provides for up to five heading levels, shown in the paragraphs that follow. Note that the word Introduction should not be used as an initial heading, as it’s assumed that your paper begins with an introduction.
Heading 1
The first two heading levels get their own paragraph, as shown here. Headings 3, 4, and 5 are run-in headings used at the beginning of the paragraph.
Heading 21
For APA formatting requirements, it’s easy to just type your own footnote references and notes. To format a footnote reference, select the number and then, on the Home tab, in the Styles gallery, click Footnote Reference.
Heading 3.
Include a period at the end of a run-in heading. Note that you can include consecutive paragraphs with their own headings, where appropriate.
Heading 4.
When using headings, don’t skip levels. If you need a heading 3, 4, or 5 with no text following it before the next heading, just add a period at the end of the heading and then start a new paragraph for the subheading and its text. (Last Name, Year)
Heading 5.
Like all sections of your paper, references start on their own page, as you see on the page that follows. Just type in-text citations as you do any text of your paper, as shown at the end of this paragraph and the preceding paragraph. (Last Name, Year)

Footnotes
1Add footnotes, if any, on their own page following references. The body of a footnote, such as this example, uses the Normal text style. (Note: If you delete this sample footnote, don’t forget to delete its in-text reference as well. That’s at the end of the sample Heading 2 paragraph on the first page of body content in this template.)
