NFORMATIVE SPEECH TOPIC IDEA AND OUTLINE VALUE: 10 pts (5) PEER REVIEWS: 1 pt. each

In this assignment, after reading "Chapter 15: Speaking to Inform" in the course textbook, you will choose a topic for your informative speech and submit your written idea below in the comments.

First, you must write the topic.

Second, you must then write out what kind of informative speech it is. Is it a speech about objects, processes, events, or concepts? (See Chapter 15, pp. 270-277 for more information about the four kinds of informative speeches).

Third, you must determine what kind of order you want the main points of your informative speech to flow. Is it chronological order, spatial order, causal order, or topical order? (See Chapter 9, pp. 160-167 for more information about how to organize the main points of an informative speech).

Finally, you will elaborate on your topic with four small parts: (1) the general purpose, (2) the specific purpose, (3) the central idea, and (4) the main points. You can see an example of what I'm looking for in Chapter 5 (p. 87) which displays the topic, general purpose, specific purpose, and central idea. However, I would like for you to add the speech type, the speech order, and the main points.

In total, your written submission should look like this example:

SPEECH ORDER: Chronological

· General Purpose: To inform

· Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the major achievements of Frederick Douglass

· Central Idea: Although born in slavery, Frederick Douglass became one of the greatest figures in American history.
