China's killer smog rolls in

In Beijing, the capital of China, it is common to find many people wearing masks to cover their faces especially during the cold and bitter winter season. Pollution, as defined in out text book refers to release of hazardous materials in the atmosphere. It is important to understand that Beijing is one of the major cities in the world that suffer acute air pollution. This has threatened the health well-being of more than 21.5 million residents residing in the city (Lee, 2017).

Air pollution is associated with a number of deaths in the city. More than 1.1 million people were found to have died of air pollution in China. This is as a result of inhaling toxic air. China is an industrialized nation that has focused on value addition in its imports and domestic production (Taylor, 2018). It has become a global leader in the manufacturing sector importing trillions of tones of products to different parts of the world not counting human capital outflows. The biggest contributor of air pollution in the Beijing is coal production.

One of the approaches that the government has undertaken to address the pollution crisis and its related devastating effects in the country is to ban fossil fuel-powered vehicles. These will be replaced by energy efficient and clean energy automobiles. Despite the tradeoff between pollution and health being so high, there is a need for the government to rethink its regulation approaches before the situation gets out of hand. Health is a critical factor in any country as productivity is largely undermined whenever there is ailing population. The Chinese government, therefore, will need to rethink its regulation measures and enforce more stringent ones to contain and mitigate the rising levels of air pollution in Beijing and the neighboring cities.

Slavery in Libya

Human trafficking in Libya has attracted attention of human rights organizations from different parts of the world. Libya is a major transit destination for the refugees and immigrants hoping to access Europe by sea (Pal, 2018). In the recent months, it has been established that African refugees and immigrants have been sold in open markets in the country, sparking protests from human rights advocates within and outside the country. As established from our text book, slavery is an inhuman act and amounts to violation of people’s rights. Slaves are usually denied their freedom and are forced to work with little or even no pay. They are also subjected to hostile environments leading to health issues, psychological and emotional turmoil.

It is important to stress the fact that the human trafficking networks have thrived amid significant lawlessness that has been created by the warring militias that have engaged in unending fights in the effort to control territorial boundaries since the appalling toppling of Muammar Gaddafi . According to the report of the International Organization for Migration, there are more than one million immigrants in Libya (Naib, 2018).

Human trafficking is one of the primary sources of social issues. According to witnesses testimonies of some of the refugees in Libya, it is established that the slaves are electrocuted and beaten severely. These are criminal acts against humanity that should be fought tooth and nail to avert slavery and refugee crisis not only in the country but also in different parts of the world. Humanitarian organizations should join suit and strive to eradicate the human trafficking cartels and their networks that have deprived many people of their rights.

America’s Foreign Policy

Donald Trump has been making startling remarks towards many world countries since he was elected as the President of the United States to succeed Barrack Obama. Just a year into his Presidency, Trump has expressed increased interest on Korea’s missile and nuclear programs. In fact, he has made it one of his top priorities. Proper diplomatic relations between countries is necessary because no country could stand on its own. However, Trump’s unconventional approach to foreign policy has sent jitters to different countries that have depended on the United States in one way or another. One of the ways that we get to understanding the fainting diplomatic relations between the United States and Korea is from Trump’s threat to withdraw American troops from the country until the Korea President Kim Jong accepts to pay more. Secondly, Trump has also threatened to disregard, outlaw and rubbish the bilateral free trade agreement of 2011 on the basis that it is unfair to the United States (Kim, 2018). This will probably mean a great trade deficit particularly in steel and car sectors.

It is important to stress the fact that no country will confront any admonishing action by Trump in a friendly manner. They will retaliate and fight their course in equal measure. It is important to understand that Korea’s nuclear plan is more of an emergency alternative to any security concerns posed by America. America should focus on building diplomatic relations with Korea other than destroying the relationship that has lasted for decades to establish and cultivate. Mere dotard remarks will stand to ruin America. Trump will serve his term and go but America will remain forever. There is hence a need to focus on sustainable foreign policies that focus to build other than destroy.
