 The Video Production Company

Videos with Pizzazz is a production company who prides itself on making music videos that appeal to the 20 plus generation. Staff are valued and encouraged to work collaboratively with each other and at the same time have fun. This style of working together has attracted many young people to apply for jobs advertised.

One way the management make sure that team spirit is maintained is to hold a special party which a small team plans and which everyone looks forward to.

The party planning team in 2019 is:

John, the Accounts Director (47 years old, never married)

Jack, Production Assistant (34 years old, married with a large family)

Howard, Script Writer (20 years old, young graduate)

The team meets for the first time to plan the party. The room is large and cold and there is a building site nearby which is making a great deal of noise.

John

(Frowning at Jack) This meeting was supposed to start at 3 o’clock –it is now 3:30 pm.

Jack

What? I can’t hear …it’s so noisy in here.

John

(Angrily) You’re late!!!!!

Jack

(Laughs) Sorry, but I have just been organising a big family gathering which will be on…..

John

Excuse me but we need to get started on this project not hear about your silly family thing.

 Howard

But John, family is important and we say we are a family friendly work place.

John

Well it’s all very well for you who have families but…

Jack

Look, my family gathering is going to be huge and so it’s taking a lot of organising…

John

I am NOT interested in hearing about it…OK!!!! I’d like us to start talking about this party the one we have to plan…that is what we are meeting for.

Jack

(Interrupting again) Let’s do something exciting like get a celebrity guest speaker to host the evening.

Howard

Well I guess we all have ideas so perhaps we could brainstorm and see what ideas we all have.

Jack

But I have a celebrity in mind…His name’s Zane Rouse.

Howard

Who’s Zane Rouse???

Jack

You know…the famous actor. People your age wouldn’t know who he was.

 John

Jack…he will cost too much. He is one of those celebrities that charge $2000 for an evening. What ideas do you have, Howard?

 Howard

Well I have been thinking about entertainment for the party as well…and there is this group who sing and dance…they are not well known but personally I think they are great.

Jack

Na, my idea is better. Let’s just talk about that.

 John

I knew it! (Angrily shouting) You really are pathetic, Jack. This meeting is a complete waste of my time! I’m leaving…I’ve got better things to do with my time than sit here with you. (Walks out slamming the door)

Jack

(Laughing ) Well with him out of the way perhaps I could get some help from the rest of you for my family gathering?

 Howard

We are actually here to get started on planning our work party, Jack. What will we do now? John has the experience in planning this event. Can we proceed without him?

 Jack

Did I say something that upset him?

 Howard

I think you must have.  Look…(sighing) I too am facing a tight deadline, so let’s just work on this party now…OK?
