Negotiation Settings
1. Intra-organizational relations. These include relations between superior and subordinates, line and staff persons and persons in different functional areas of an organization.
2. Inter-organizational relations. These involve activities where resources of more than one organization are pulled together toward achievement of mutually-perceived objectives.
3. Relations of private and public enterprises with governments. These include relations with bureaucrats, regulatory bodies, elected representatives and members of the judiciary.
4. Organizational relations with private citizens. These include individuals acting on their own behalves and organized pressure groups.
5. Labor Management Relations. Approximately 30 percent of the course will deal, in part, with matters of labor relations.
6. Relations with the media — both as a tool in negotiations with others and as a direct party to the process
7. Role of intervention techniques — including mediation, ombudsmanship and arbitration.
8. Crisis Management — Crises usually require fast action and direct involvement of top-level executives. In most instances they involve potential property damage, threats to safety and health and, sometimes, the survival of an enterprise may be at stake.
