Discussion 1:

The article talks about how Wang Dong Ugly Gorilla from China hacked pipelines and what way it affected people in the US (Sobczak, Northey, & Behr, 2017). The Industrial Control System was targeted, and the malicious code attached itself to software updates and all the data could be accessed by the hackers. The group of hackers under him did communicate all the stolen data through the US severs that they hijacked.

This had a heavy impact on the people, their privacy, and their environment. The hacking was mainly done to get the blueprints and planning of various control systems and the equipment was damaged, processes disrupted, and confidential data was stolen. Many mishaps happened, people were victimized to pipeline blasting and pipeline leakages. A lot of private secured data was pulled and was used to get personal information of virtual maps, strategies, blueprints of other control systems that helped them target more systems and disrupt more people and their information for their malicious objectives (Sobczak et al., 2017).

Everything these days depend on son power and hence, pipelines to generate power. The damage to the economy of the country can be huge and uncountable may be an approximate value of 20 billion dollars. The entire day to day routine is disturbed and the entire country is in chaos and the entire country’s economy and financial equilibrium are doomed. The hackers might have some targets to implement their code on, but the impact is widespread, it enters the infrastructure and can be of a major threat. Many companies do not complain of being victimized to cyber-attacks because they see it as a way of inviting more cyber-attacks and they do not want their company to stand vulnerable (Sobczak et al., 2017).

Having people of different diversities and having a the commonality for all people in the organization will make it easier to spot any data in the data sets that might be prone to a cyber-attack or that have been targeted for cyberattacks or can spread further attack. Diversity includes people of all races and ethnicities including people with disorders like autism which established a new path for a broader perspective. So, recruiting people of different origins and different perspectives and cognitive abilities would help mitigate cyber-attacks and help people fight cyber wars and make their cybersecurity systems stronger (Sobczak et al., 2017).

Discussion 2:

Attacks on our national infrastructure are already happening. And the expectation is that they will continue to increase at an accelerated rate given the rise of use of technology. There are so many examples that we know, especially the recent one related to Equifax, which alarmed us that companies are increasing their fashionable bars on defending prepared or un-organized statistics in order to keep away from information breaches.

As per the article (Sobczak, Northey, & Behr, 2017), nearly two dozen US natural gas and oil companies were attacked by a hacker named UglyGorilla, breaching the nation’s 300-000-mile web of steel that’s a critical backbone for the nation’s economy. The hackers’ assault two foremost factors when it comes to oil and gasoline enterprise – the IT and the operations. The IT sector when hacked leads to breach in records dealing with day to day business. While on the other hand the operations hack can motive the very working of the pipelines or plant performance to be disturbed. Because of the awareness to defend such statistics or operational breaches it department of safety without a doubt released a protection measure regulation for the delivery and strength structures (Golinowska, 2009).

With Diversity and commonality, I believe that there is a breath of clean air and an understanding which is agreed upon with the aid of most industries to enforce frequent high standardized bar of safety and stop breaches (Amoroso, 2012). I agree with that Diversity in methodology of safety implementation and configurations helps in designing structures that are difficult to predict and group into acknowledged patterns which is key to keep away from any attack either on IT or Operational aspect of the data. The key is to add a combination of manual vs. computerized safety rules and guidelines into granting get right of entry to and break the very root of the threat that is shaking the world.
