The level of measurement for the two variables are nominal

The measurement of center and variation gives someone the point estimate of the whole data

Measures of center

Measures of center include mean, median, mode and midrange

While the midrange gives the average of maximum and minimum, mode represent the most frequent element in the dataset

Mean on the other hand gives the central tendency or the balance point of the data

Median gives the middle value of the data given when arrange in either ascending or descending order

Measures of variation

The two measures of variation are standard deviation and the range.

They are important because they give how much the data is spread from the average or the mean of the data.

Standard deviation gives how much the data is spread from the mean while range gives the difference between the maximum and minimum of the data available

Confidence interval

Confidence interval can be defined as interval estimate that is calculated from the statistics of the data available for observation, that may contain a true value of the unknown size of a population.

Point estimate is process of using a sample data when calculating one value which will be used as the best guess of the unknown population parameter.

Sample mean us the best estimate for the population mean.

It gives a range of possible values that the sample may take when controlling the probability that might be lower or higher than the estimated range.

95% confidence interval

Sample mean = 61 and size of sample =12

CI = 61 3.072

It is true that the age of those admitted is less than 65 since the maximum value from the CI = 64.072

Null and alternative hypothesis

Null - The average age of those infected is not above 40

Alternative - most people infected are below the age of 50

The test is two-tailed because the rejection is on both sides of normal distribution.

The type of test

t test is the suitable once since the standard deviation of the population is not known

The value of test is 61

Hypothesis rejection

The hypothesis is rejected because the test value proves that the mean is well above 40 years of age

The critical value of the above is 64.

Conclusion

The higher confidence interval gives a higher probability to cover the true value.

With a narrower confidence interval, a lower variability is realized and thereby a higher precision is achieved.
