Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Thesis Statement: Narcissistic personality disorder comes with many complications or challenges that are often destructive to the individual and loved ones, create problems at school or within the workplace, and causes the tendency to misuse alcohol and drugs.

Difficulty relating with friends and loved ones:

· In their research, Miller, et al (2010) has shown that patients with a narcissistic personality disorder may experience failure in a wide area of their lives including areas of relationship with family and friends. This article relates to this main point in that it that NPD often destroys the life of the patient in the long run if not treated.

· Watson, et al, (1992) also show that patients with a narcissistic personality disorder may have issues with their self-esteem and often lack empathy towards others. This often affects their romantic relationships and how they relate with their friends and family members.

Problems at school and or workplace:

· Stellwagen, & Kerig, (2013) show that narcissistic attitude can also affect school-going children. These researchers theorize that NPD may create antisocial behavior in school going children which in turn may affect their relationships with teachers and other students at school.

The tendency to misuse alcohol and drugs:

· A research report by Catterson, et al, (1997) showed that a young woman died from complications relating to alcohol misuse as this patient was struggling with some personality disorder. The researchers observed that the eating disorder as a style of narcissism that may have caused sadness, and aggression. At the same time, these researchers detail how alcoholism may have created severe medical complications that may have led to the death of the case in question. This research article relates to the point of the tendency of patients misusing alcohol and drugs in that the researchers detail how alcohol may have created the medical complications relating to alcohol abuse that led to the death of the patient in question.

· A survey by Pietrzak, et al, (2012) shows that symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder may cause social or occupational dysfunction that could drive a patient to indulge in alcohol or drug misuse. This survey report relates to the point of misuse of alcohol and drugs in that it shows the possibility of the complications that may be brought about by narcissistic personality disorder.

· Conclusion:

One of the things this research revealed is that narcissistic personality disorder often causes complications and or challenges in several areas of their lives including their financial affairs, personal relationships, difficult relationships with coworkers, clients, and bosses at the workplace, and difficulties relating with teachers, support staff, and fellow students at school. With these imminent difficulties, it, therefore, follows that the patient should consider seeking treatment from a trusted doctor who could help make life enjoyable and more rewarding.
