How Can Diseases and Viruses Become Less Prevalent
“Every year, tens of thousands of Americans will get sick from harmful germs spread
between animals and people” (CDC). With so many infections in America alone, how can
humanity ward off these illnesses amongst others? Viewpoint One suggests that how humans
interact with animals should be restricted along with the restriction of what animals are permitted
to reside amongst one another. This side argues that diseases become stronger when mingled
with other species’ diseases, thus allowing them to gain in strength and increase their ability to
live in beings other than the species that hosted their genesis; therefore, animals should be
limited to interacting only with their same species, with the exception of healthy humans.
Viewpoint Two suggests there is a more efficient method to reducing/eliminating disease that
could prove beneficial for generations to come. It argues that humans should be genetically
modified, making them more resistant to such diseases thus lessoning the need to worry about
malevolent interactions and permanently increasing humanities resistance against many diseases.
How should the issue of human health and disease resistance be addressed?
