MY PRELIMINARY SPEECH PLAN 2

My Preliminary Speech Plan

1. What is my final topic for the speech?

The final topic for my speech is Self-Defense for women.

2. What are my main points?

The speech will have several main points. The first point will be, there are a total of 263, 242 crime incidents that were reported in the state of Pennsylvania in 2016. Notably, the point is meant to grab the attention of the audience and make them interested in my speech. The second point will narrow down these incidents and focus on women. As such, this point will state that women are at risk of being robbed or raped while walking alone at night and even during the day. The third point will address how women can defend themselves using the items that they carry such as keys, sprays or water bottles. Thus, it will state that women can protect themselves using the things that they carry on a daily basis such as keys, water bottles, and sprays.

3. What is my central Idea?

Today, I am going to tell you about self-defense for women including the statistics of criminal incidents in the state of Pennsylvania, the risks women face while walking alone during the day and at night, and how they can use the small things that they carry on a daily basis to protect themselves.

4. What do you know about your audience and how they will react to this speech?

I know that the audience of my speech will be women from the state of Pennsylvania. As such, they can understand English. Also, the women will be interested to know that they can use the small things they carry on a daily basis to defend themselves against attacks. In this regard, the audience will react positively to may speech since it will inform them about how they can protect themselves while walking alone.

5. What are your concerns about this speech? What will you need to remember the most?

One of my major concerns about this speech is that it does not have enough humor. As a result, the audience might find the speech boring. Also, I am concerned that the speech might not have a powerful opening. Therefore, the audience might not get motivated to listen to the speech. During the presentation, what I have to remember the most is the needs of the audience which is, learning how to defend themselves. Notably, this will enable me to ensure that I tailor the message to my audience effectively.

6. What did you learn from doing your practice speech that will help you with this presentation?

After doing my practice speech, I learned how to gauge my timing. I learned how many words I can speak in a 5-minute slot. As a result, this will help me to ensure that I manage time effectively while doing the presentation. I also learned how to reduce my uneasiness while delivering the speech. Initially, I was so nervous that I wasn’t able to speak audibly. However, after practice, I have learned how to be more confident while delivering the speech (Fogleman, 2017). Finally, while practicing the speech, I discovered some awkward phrases. As a result, this will help to avoid such phrases during the presentation.
